IainB
Is this potentially good news for British Speedway I wonder. The headline news says it'll be easier for under 35's to move to and work in each others country's. Could we see an influx of Aussie 2 pointers like back in the 80's Edited June 15, 2021 by iainb
Deano
I hope so as it might slowly draw to an end the double-upping I despise. But it's a double ended sword as it may force retirements due to riders not making it pay. It'll be interesting how it pans out. The working holiday visa scheme has existed for years, so this is just upping the age limit from 30 to 35 (probably as an attempt to compensate for the labour shortages caused by Brexit). I believe in the past, Aussies without patriality often used working holiday visas to come and ride speedway, but there was a clampdown on this some years ago. I think a specific T5 or T2 visa with various qualifications is now required. Edited June 16, 2021 by Humphrey Appleby

Same with Brits going to Aus. If you get a job visa's will be granted without restriction, including minor any criminal records. Believe the government are looking to do similar with New Zealand too. The government (quite cleverly imo) are trying to reattach themselves with all the previous commonwealth states again. A great thing & could be huge for the UK

Nothing much of substance beyond raising the age limits, and just a lot of political headlining I think. As well as you can do three years here now without having to spend a day on a farm doing regional work, where as before you got granted a one year working holiday visa and could gain a second year if you had spent 88 days or more doing regional work in your first year. Thought the 3-year working holiday visa already came in a couple of years ago, and some countries already had age increase to 35. Also didn't think that the regional work necessarily had to be farm work. I knew someone who worked in construction up in Darwin who told me that qualified as well. Your correct, I also done construction in Darwin to get passed off on it. But 95 percent of people do it on a farm. I tried it for a couple of days when I first arrived , not for me !!! i think they recently changed it to three years from two but you had to do regional work in the first and second years to get the third.
