Missed opportunities with live streaming

Recommended Posts

IFollow cost £10 and I can suffer every STFC match throughout the season. In Keague 1 and 2 it’s usually one camera and commentary from BBC Swindon, which works reasonably well but does go out if sync at times.

To get around piracy, every buyer uses email plus password to login. The system would have the fans IP address and if someone else logged on with the same user/password, the system boots them off and blocks the password. All very easy.

As for geo-blocking, again a vpn would get over it, but the ip wouldn’t be Uk based or not match the credit/debit card information so again the password would be suspended and stream blocked.

fans might do it once but once the stream is blocked it won’t be repeated in future meetings. Whatever software the clubs use, this is basic stuff the software should deal with.

Don't for get some clubs already film meetings to sell on DVD later. Never see much point in buying old league matches, but the obviously already have a camera set up...

I'd happily carry on attending home meetings and stream away meetings

Who buys dvds today? I don’t think I have purchased a dvd since about 2003. Fans want live streaming with a download facility straight after. Or better still a subscription of say £25ish a month which gives 2 live streams and access to downloadable home matches.

With a double header today, featuring two teams a fair old way apart in distance, it would have been an ideal day to stream both meetings..

They both got filmed so why not just show them 'live'?

Both meetings for a £20 'special' would have had a decent take up I would think..

Due to the pandemic restrictions, for once, demand for tickets is exceeding supply at several tracks...

So use this "phenomenon' to make some more money...

While it lasts..

I have already purchased my ticket. Pretty sure a lot of Poole fans will also. And the feed will give neutrals something to watch on a Friday night if they want to see some action.

Will you be streaming it live for the rest of us to watch so we don't have to pay to watch it?

The BSPL definitely looked into streaming, I'm guessing they decided the cost was prohibitive? They haven't got the money to invest into it I guess, especially after last year ....

Maybe as a collective they could do it to spread the cost and share the revenue..?

A Thursday night Premiership Meeting every week, with a Monday night one as well on nights when no Eurosport coverage.

And then do a couple of Championship matches per week?

Any revenue generated after paying the company doing the broadcast could be divided out to the hosting track and also used towards ref costs, medical costs etc for all..

Use the Geo blocking if they feel it will help, but as has been said, price it right and those 'local' will attend before paying out for streaming..

And on nights when the weather is 'iffy' I am sure there will be plenty local who wouldnt risk attending, but last minute when they see the meeting is definitely on, would pay for the stream..

I would have thought that on a Bank Holiday the Aces v Panthers meetings would easily have had 2000 fans from around the country paying £20 for both matches combined..

"Speedway updates" had over a 1000 fans watching a screen do nothing but update for both meetings....

Which shows the potential I would suggest..

Unfortunately no one in authority is listening. A few clubs make the effort and like many On the forum I wish more would stream matches. Few people these days travel to away meetings particularly if it is not a Friday, Saturday or Sunday race day. Many who watch speedway are unlikely to travel a long distances given the unpredictability of the sport being on and as has been said already many would probably subscribe and what better way to put something into the coffers of the sport for the benefit of all clubs. This past weekend was a fine example when streaming may have paid dividends. Sadly nothing can change the dinosaurs in charge who still believe that main terrestrial/ satellite channels are the panacea for speedway.  If that is the case why is Netflix so successful with not a live programme in sight. Streaming and highlights from around the tracks is not beyond the capabilities and frankly delayed streaming by say 15 or 20 mins might solve the problems for some who have concerns that it may affect attendances. After all, in few cases is it worth watching the same race twice as is currently the case on live screenings. What about a subscription streaming service with discounts for buying a certain number of meetings in advance? Something new needs to be trialed rather than let the idea die.

I agree with everyone - live streaming is such an obvious thing to do (you'd think...). Now that my team (Somerset) has folded, and with Swindon not running this year, I'm looking at travelling a minimum of 2 hours there and 2 hours back to see any live speedway at my nearest tracks (Poole / Wolverhampton / Plymouth). I'm not really up for going such a long distance on a regular basis, so I'll happily pay for a live feed to watch as a 'neutral' supporter. Had to laboriously trawl through the websites of each and every club just to check who was offering a live stream right now. Answer: hardly any of them! Tuned into Edinburgh's meeting last Friday against Redcar and was very impressed with their presentation. If Edinburgh can do this, why can't many other clubs? Now hoping to watch the Glasgow meeting this Friday.

Surely it may depend on how good the Wi-Fi/broadband system is at each stadium - bearing in mind the ownership of most stadiums it might not be the Speedway Club's fsult.

Could be steamed on a 5G signal without issue.
