Guest
Your lot did do well with 2 first timers at the the track. But lucky? You mean the sort of luck with Tom Brennan having a seized engine whilst nailed on for a win & another EF when 2nd?
woofers
Mostly accurate Steve. I was cursing Eddie Kennett’s performance, (when will he stop looking behind ?!), but I think Tom Brennan’s two mechanical failures helped put Poole in front for most of the evening. The rest was swings and roundabouts.
Trackrat
Nice to see Paul losing in the lower league, Manchester United of speedway should be walking these fixtures surely.
Rayleigh
4 hours ago, Steve Shovlar said: Well that was gutting. Poole by far the better team considering two of the riders have never set foot inside Arlington before. Eastbourne scrapped home by winning the toss at the start of the meeting and choosing heat 15. That gave them the 1 and 3 needed to get home by a point. There was some decent racing in front of what looked like a healthy crowd though the official gate was exactly 1000. Nice to catch up with many friendly faces again after a long layoff. Middlo clearly not wanting to make any tactical changes tonight although Hume for Cook in heat 12 was screaming to be done. And why did the ref excluded Cook when it looked like from where we were that Kemp knocked him off? For Poole Schlein was OK. First meeting in a while so didn’t expect too much. Keleher had never seen the place. Gated ok but just couldn’t get to grips with the track and struggled badly with bend 2. Worrall was very good. Can’t fault his effort with plenty of passing. Just outgated in heat 15. Neilsen tried all night. King was good value but on the graveyard 4 in heat 15. Cook found it very tough. First visit but tried hard. Hume was good value. Should really have had an extra ride. Plengy to come from this Pirates side, though patience will be required to give our new riders a chance to bed in. For Eastbourne. They got lucky. The home crowd went home happy but deep down they knew they got out of jail due to a coin toss and Poole giving all their riders their full quota. Nice touch to have a minutes silence for covid victims and Jon Cook, which was observed perfectly. Oh how I`ve missed a Steve Shovlar balanced match report. 1
ruckerroo
Nothing has changed for kennett in 2 seasons, totally unreliable in the races that matter. Shame for brennan who had looked really fast and his 5 lost points let poole pinch an away one. Poole should be pleased really, i dont think many sides will get one at arlo this yr 1
Hunters
What A Night. Very encouraging for the season but. Kennett must sort his engine problems out Lawson had similar problems first two races but did get it right after that Kerr played a captains role and kept it together whilst the problems were mounting Newman a bit rusty but put in a determined shift Edwards improving fast did well and should go far Kemp struggled a bit but will contain most reserves TOM BRENNAN rider of the night for me, Beat Schlein hands down in heat one but engine blew on last lap and presented Poole a 5-0 then in his last ride gave Worrell a good run and was robbed of 2nd by another engine failure yards from the tapes. Should have been 11 points form 12 Despite almost exactly 2 years since his last Arlington match due to injury and covid he just keeps getting better. POOLE : Got their tails up and took advantage of their good fortune. They have a good team and when the two new Australians have more experience they will be one of the front runners. Barring accidents it looks almost certain that both these teams will be in the play off's
BobC
Dont like losing to Eastbourne at all, so consider it a moral victory. I will happily take an away point from this meeting. . Ok, we got a little lucky with Brennans problems, but thats not our fault. All our lads had a least one good ride each which is encouraging. Very pleased with Danyon Humes performance. Ive liked watching him in the NL and even more pleased that hes at Poole. For RS to score 5pts there is a great effort. Not many will do that. Encouraging start. Steve Shovlar
Humes deserved another ride but clearly it was decided that we would make no rider changes in this meeting. If Humes had been used in heat 12 I feel sure Poole would have won by a point. Will give a mention to Brennan who is certainly one for the future and this could well be a very good year for the lad. One EF is unfortunate. Two is bad maintenance or prep and he needs to sort his pit crew out there. Knows the quickest way around Arlington and used the inside line out of bend two which our Aussies found impossible. Only Steve Worrall for Poole used it. Good news for Poole is that if we have to go there in a playoff situation the place will hold little fear. Feel confident we would see Eastbourne off over two legs. Our Aussies will find the shape of the Poole track much more to their liking.

Early days but I rather think you snatched defeat from the jaws of victory there, it remains to be seen if it’s going to be costly.

gee jay
wasn't there , but reading all the comments with interest . certainly not the score i wanted or expected . hoped a 50+ score would really grab the attention of the rest of the league and have most teams beaten before they arrive which i believe has been the case very often , that hasn't happened . i thought kyle & edward would do much better against poole . however result will show teams that they're not beaten until riders have crossed the line in heat 15 . bragging rights on the south coast certainly goes to the pirates . i'm not so sure that any talk of "revenge" in the return leg isn't misplaced though . i think the eagles will be the team with the point to prove now , if so that's going to be a cracker. hope that everything gets opened up at poole soon as we could do with some good news after somerset .

I think heat 1 needs to be taken out of the equation as there were only 2 starters. but for the rest of the meeting 1 & 4 were the better gates I would honestly say 2 & 3 were the worst for the night.

For others I guess it is hard to take as leading nearly the whole meeting apart from when it counts! But performance bodes well for rest of the season. A lot of people gave Poole more than a chance and the reason for that is the inactivity of a number of the home riders in competitive matches - The Eagle’s first match last Saturday was rained off as was their second at Kent last Tuesday - So going into yesterday’s match 4 of the team had not had a competitive match so far and could understandably be ring rusty (Richard Lawson, Eddie Kennett, Kyle Newman, and Jason Edwards) - Lewis Kerr had ridden in 2 Premier matches as had Tom Brennan and Drew Kemp - On the Poole side Danny King had 2 Premier matches as had Steve Worrall with Rory Schlein having one - I assume Danyon Hume and Stefan Nielsen have not been in competition this season but stand to be corrected if they have - And were the 2 young Aussies riding back home earlier on this year? - But this would have been their first visit to Arlington - I’m also led to believe that Eddie Kennett has a very young son and we all know how much that takes out of you - Eastbourne will improve a lot as the season progresses and along with Leicester, Glasgow, Redcar, and Poole will be up there battling it out - Don’t be hard on any rider at this stage of the season as they are all trying to get back in the swing and for some it will take longer than others - Be glad British speedway is up and running and enjoy the sport we all love -
