Oxford 63-73

HI (again)

Query over Oxford's Track records.  I've got a TR of 63 seconds by Peter Craven on the 9th May 1963. The next TR is by George Hunter on the 10th May 1973 with a time of 65.4.

Anyone know the reason why Oxford reset their record and when ?

Peter Craven set the record when the track measured 354 yards.  I believe there were minor alterations made for 1973, with the length reduced to 350 yards.

BL65, thanks for that - so I need to use 63 until 1973 (or unless bettered of course).

Holy cow that means Peter Cravens' track record lasted for 10 years-never beaten on the 354 yard track-that in itself sounds like a record!!!

If I recall Peter's time was achieved during the Golden Helmet (Sash?) match race at Cowley where his opponent was Ove Fundin. Peter won 2-1 and all three races were around the 63 seconds mark.
