Leicester Lion Cubs 2021

As we have signed Kai Ward who do we think the “Ginger Ninja” should have in his team?

I’m guessing at Dan & Joe, but that still leaves 4 spots up for grabs?

The issue is, if the points limit has been dramatically reduced surely the focus has got to be getting “value on their average” second strings where they can look at putting a couple of points on their average….

Press releases still point to the same team as initially announced with Hume removed due to points reduction and Dicken not wanting a NDL place (again).

So who do you think will be the additional rider?

All depends on what the actual points limit is? Based on 35 then Jamie Halder would be a good addition as a strong second string anything less than that and its likely another 3 pointer either new to league or failure from previous attempts.

Nasty rumour circulating that Chattin has been released as the Cubs want a younger reserve!  The obsession with young riders is bordering on disturbing.

Mickie Simpson perhaps? Is luke Whitehead still knocking around? Although he might be too old by now!! Not a teenager

It's definitely an odd time sport is trying to give young riders a chance yet it's seemingly at the expense of an older rider who is still trying to find his level

Mickie would be a good shout probably only slightly behind Sam McGurk and Archie Freeman in the new rider category. Only downfall could be his machinery. Good luck to him though he is a trier

The point i was making is that ditching a 22 year old for a rider who is just younger isnt on. What about signing riders because they are good enough. Many moan at falling standards and yet seem insistant that any 16 year old with a bike gets a place.

all riders really need to start at reserve to give them confidence with  racing riders of the same 3 point caliber   getting a couple of points in your first heats makes a lot of difference to the head  and the rest of the meeting we have mostly rode at number 2 last few years but managed to  creep over the 3 point ave once to 3.5 ,being in ht 1 is a hard one with a couple  of heat leaders so your struggling for that 1 point usually  and end up only getting 3 rides because the reserve is banging in points when we dropped to reserve we did 3 meetings won the reserve race in the 3 meetings    plus a few more points as you get a couple races against the other reserve always a different rider when you win the reserve race or follow your partner home  and that  gives you a bit of confidence going into your next one

In any other job in the country that would be age discrimination & illegal, how is speedway any different?

Because immoral is one of the grounding rules for speedway. Sadly will be very difficult to prove as i doubt anyone ahs put anything in writing but disgusting actions non the less. If it had been due to better options available or we had a few match races at a practice day and the younger rider fared better then fair enough but i suspect the Cubs tails will be pretty long and clumsy this season.

Unfortunate when other clubs are sticking with the 7 they had in 2020

Sadly i don't think anyone will be able to track the 1-7 they had planned due to the points reduction but if a better option becomes available or comes of age to do league racing it could be considered justified but age based rather than ability based just isn't on. Complaints that the sport is being diluted or the NDL is full of "wobblers" just gains traction when the best available riders are not those who are being given the team places.

So Ben Trigger is the younger model that’s replaced Chattin. Harsh on Chattin but I understand this move more than I initially did as Trigger would’ve been 14 last season so ineligible but turns 15 for this season. Had things have been normal then Trigger would be in for this season anyway. Tough on Chattin and I hope he gets fixed up somewhere else and tbf enough other teams must need 3.00 reserves with the awfully low points limit.

Very harsh on Chattin. Not seen any evidence that Trigger is ready to make the jump from 125's to 500's both physically and mentally but i hope he proves me wrong. A lot fresh riders into the league this year and those who looked to be ready for improvement are being pushed aside, Chattin will have to be patient in case a mid season place opens up but at 22 is he really considered over the hill now.

Of course Chattin shouldn’t be, but there’s an obsession lately at only prioritising kids and that every rider should be on an upward curve. No, we should support all British riders that are willing to ride and commit to a full league campaign.

Both Ben Trigger and James Chattin were regulars at Leicester open practice sessions in 2020 which gave the promotion to look at both riders.

Chattin did seem to struggle with the Leicester track at times both in his guest appearances and when I have seen him at practice with a few big crashes. But he is a lovely guy so I am sure that he will get another team place
