Really takes in the surroundings of a much loved iconic venue. I was there too, but couldn't quite spot myself! Thankyou very much for that footage,had some many happy memories of watching the Tigers there and some belting individual meetings,actually brought a tear to my eye,was a sad loss when it had to close. There was something wonderful and totally unique about the place... As much as I loved Wimbledon, Wembley, and all the rest, Hyde Road had the atmosphere of an historic and imposing place of worship. Both had Imposing wooden stands, great race tracks and wreaked of History. Unfortunately, while I certainly remember my trips to Custom House with great fondness, the fact that I was only a kid when they closed does blur the memory a little! Of course, I made many more trips up to Hyde Road in the 80's. Having said that, I do agree with you. It does sound like we feel the same way. Yes, construction was very "basic" with the old stadiums (football as well as speedway), but for me, there was something very romantic about concrete, wood, and corrugated iron! Seriously! I know I'm weird, but there is a certain mystique to early 20th Century British architecture. When we were up in Salford back in the 90's, we had a drive around the area (never spent any time in Manchester other than trips to Belle Vue), and Maine Road was just the same. Sidney the robin Posted November 18, 2020 Report Share Posted November 18, 2020 Terrific footage Hyde Rd was a special place out of all my visits i can only remember it being dry once .!!!! My main memory probably was Carter winning his BLRC titles and Ivan's farewell meeting also the wet 1983 BLRC sticks in my mind with Erik winning it and Lee beating Nielsen in a run for second place. Yeah, not the easiest thing to do! One of my favourite trips there (apart from the fact it was dry) was for the KOC in 1980.
