He was found 'not guilty' though, that is the difference.

Doesn't mean he didn't commit a pretty horrible crime though

The girl had life changing injuries. & I don't think it was a not guilty verdict. As I understand a very expensive barrister supplied to the riders plea bargained for a behaviour bond & a large compensation pay out.

Probably going to regret this but here goes...

I'll start with the boring factual stuff.
Almost all people sentenced to time in prison in the UK serve 50% before release "on licence". It's only if you get over (4 years I think) that you depending on your sentence (as set by the judge) either get 66% in prison, or have to apply for parole. I "think" Jason would have had to apply for parole, parole is almost always rejected at the first attempt. So if Jason has been released at attempt one then he has been very well behaved. That means no fighting, arguing, disagreements, dirty looks, attending courses (that's time spent with psychologists). It means he's worked damn hard.

Next bit. Should Jason be allowed to be a speedway rider? Long term forum members will remember me, I idioted up, I went to prison. I met many people who were somewhere between absolute wrong 'uns who IMO should never seen the light of day to people who idioted up and will (are?!) be good people who will add to society on release. Where does Jason fit? Well IMO, he's more on the a bit stupid, but probably knows it and wants to make good but his intelligence makes it hard to explain that. Would I give him a chance? Yes but with very, very strict rules that if he so much as answers back the manger he is sacked. Why? Because I believe that everyone should be given a second chance (what a shock I think that eh?!). One of the reason I think people should get a second chance is, because as other have pointed out, what else can he do? Should he claim benefits for the next 50 years? Give him a purpose in life, trust me, it makes a massive difference.

I would also be very wary of trusting anything in the press. Yes the crimes were committed but pleading guilty means you get almost no chance to put your side of the case across, also the press misrepresent things, which legally is allowed. Lies? Yep, sure as long as there is a vague basis of fact. So the press ask you for your side? Do they idiot!

SCB,

Fair play for coming on here and saying this, I have a lot more respect for you.

It is a really difficult one, what happened was completely unacceptable but should he be given another chance?

If he is genuinely remorseful and wants to get his life back on tract then who are we to deny him the opportunity to do this with something he can do well and rebuild his life through it.

I agree with SCB, if he did get given another chance then it would need draconian measures on everything he does.

Should he be denied this opportunity to potentially rebuild his life? That's a massive question.

Just my opinion I don’t think any club should sign him, speedway is a family sport, there’s no room for violent, thuggish, low IQ crack heads in this sport. He’d be better suited to working a job at a rubbish tip or something more suitable for an unintelligent fool like him.

let him without sin throw the 1st stone.

At the end of the day if he wants to work then that is his choice, if a employer wants to hire him that is their choice, if you disagree do not spend any money supporting him, that is your choice.

quite simply really

If a big blue van with Tesco printed all over it pulls up outside your house & your doorbell rings the man standing there holding a blue tray with your shopping order in it.

Do you invite him into your home? or do you ask him if he's been in prison first?

To be fair its very unlikely that he/she will have been - Timpsons on the other hand are well known for their rehabilitation efforts for ex offenders etc so the next man to cut you a key may well have been an ex offender!

I saw Garrity ride for Sheffield in what was is 2015 or 2016 - he certainly had talent.

You either believe in the concept of restoratative justice or not - he deserves a chance to prove he can move on and be the better person, other wise he will just languish on the dole and potentiually slip back into a life of crime etc.

Did you know that when you leave prison you used to be given a payment that was about £50 or so and that was supposed to help you start again, I have no idea if thats still the case or if that payment is more now (I have never been inside etc so only know this used to be true from others telling me), however in todays world that will last about 5 minutes and if you are denied any chance to work again then i cant see how you are ever going to be able to contribute to society etc.

However if that one chance is not taken then well you are on your own!

Cut your keys... follow you home... rob your house... murder you while you sleep... do a jobbie in your bed... probably....

Completely bonkers how SCB is allowed to use the internet after what he was caught doing. How ironic he is on a thread talking about giving an ex con a second chance.

both him and Garrity should be left to rot in a cell never to walk the streets again. Utter scum.

Not really a laughing matter, you do know what SCB got done for dont you? He was sent down for having extreme child porn on his computers and was caught filming people pi$$ing in public toilets. Google his name its all on there.

Disgraceful how he has been welcomed back on here and so many liking his post.
