How many doses have the Germans bought? We got 40m initially... mind you we've still got to balls up the distribution of it yet

Not sure. They did say  Germany should have priority as the government have financed the research firm developing it, but then chuckled a bit saying they might have to share it round the EU !! But I see the EU are negotiating their own supply

One of the things was  saying if everything worked like clockwork it would take 6 minutes for every vaccine and they wanted 60 centres around the country which would give a max of 300,000 per day

Bit it was more technical stuff that still hadn’t come out of the tests which might cause problems even though it was all very hopeful. But they said even if it is good, we might still have to have social distancing and masks till the end of 2021. But I didn’t understand why although I was not alone as one of the guests was also a bit confused with all the technical stuff

It would seem in the UK that the elderly and 'at risk' will be the first to get the vaccine along with key workers and then followed by age groups downwards ie 80s, 70s, 60s etc.

That should cover the bulk of the UKs speedway audience by April. Job done!

But here is the news from Sweden

70-plus people, healthcare employees and people in the risk group will be given priority.

Only after the summer of next year is Sweden expected to be able to offer corona vaccine to the masses.

- If everything works well and several vaccines are approved, we will have been able to give all prioritized one vaccine during the first half of the year, says Sweden's vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström

Wouldn't it be the height of irony if UK via German Pfizer and its own Oxford and Cambridge led work had ample supplies of vaccine by May and the Poles were lagging behind and unable to keep up.

How would that suit the bullies of Polish Speedway Federation.

They need to realise they are part of a global sport and that other speedway countries may be behind in Speedway terms but light years ahead in other scientific areas.

after todays announcement regarding the vaccine, and fans being allowed back in stadiums today (depending on tier) im more confident now we will have a 2021 season.

hopefully by spring we wont be in tiers or any form of lockdown and we can have at least 33% of capacity in each stadium

It'll be interesting to see if any clubs/businesses/country's will require any form of vaccine passport stamp to allow entry/use/travel

Shouldn't be needed

The vaccine will (at least should) be voluntary and if someone chooses not to have it they should not be discriminated against

If someone attending has been vaccinated then they should have no fear of another that isnt after all they are protected

If someone attending hasn't been vaccinated (through choice) then they do so at their own risk along with any other in that position

Exclusion on the grounds of non vaccination should be illegal

That’s probably above the normal attendance level at most Tracks, so we should be OK then to return to normal.;)

It will be interesting to see how the BSPA dress this up if it is the case. They’re notorious for not announcing attendance figures, what happens when teams are allowed to open at half capacity but have to put the message out that they don’t usually fill that anyway.

One thing that could hurt the sport however is firstly, having to police social distancing, this means employing stewards and secondly facilities. Toilets, food and beverage outlets are not as plentiful as at most football grounds and some of the lower football league sides are having trouble on this front already.

Given the average age of a speedway supporter, I fear attendances will struggle to return to normal after this pandemic.Age and Employment will be a big factor.Certainly can’t afford to charge the current admission prices if they “ water down “the Leagues like they are hinting. While I am not against a revamp with young riders given their chances ,but they should not be paying “ silly money for them to ride, things have to put into perspective.IMO.

Very true. From what I’ve seen online there are a number of football fans of my club who, despite having bought season tickets and being allowed to attend now, simply aren’t doing so because they feel unsafe for one reason or another. The bulk of those are in the older, more vulnerable bracket. A lot of stalwart Speedway fans seem to fall into that age bracket.

I can’t see costs for the fan ever going down sadly. The majority of teams are tenants in their stadiums and landlords will want their going rate of rent regardless of the standard of racing being held there weekly.

For me, speedway alongside Premier league football will have to remain on the back burner for the foreseeable future. No one expects the vaccine to lead to a quick fix to end the pandemic. Many experts are predicting it will be next Autumn before things start to return to normal. For now, i will continue to attend lower league football matches to help retain my sanity!

Can't see Speedway returning in 2021

Really? I think it's great news that one vaccine is already here and hopes are high that the Oxford one will be approved before the new year. The NHS managed to vaccinate all the over-65s who wanted the flu jab inside a couple of months and the roll out for the vaccine will be massive. We don't need the whole population to be vaccinated before life returns to something like normal, just the most vulnerable who have to go to hospital and who are at the most risk from dying. The prospects are good for this by Easter and I think that outdoors events will be ok for the spring and summer months.

It must surely be a worry though that immunity from the vaccine is only supposed to be around 3 months. So anyone getting the vaccine this month might not have immunity by the start of the season.....? Just a thought
