iris123
Reading about Geoff Penniket got me thinking, seeing as he came from Merton, that he never rode for the Dons. Then there was Steve Schofield from Carshalton and also Steve Hone who came from Merton. None rode for the Dons. Any other strange cases out there ? Guest
Always felt that the Dons missed a trick by never signing Schoie. He was a fabulous rider at NL level and popular to boot.

I only speak in the most hushed and reverential tones about his "bruvver". His is a name not to be taken lightly.

iris123
On that theme Welsh rider Taffy Own never rode for a welsh team. I guess his family had moved away by the time he took up speedway ? Probably the same with Ray Wilson ?
BOBBATH
That might be stretching it re Taffy Owen , Iris, Taffy was born in Anglesey -much closer to Manchester than any of the Welsh speedway tracks that operated in Taff's era-thinking of Neath and Newport-the other end of Wale snot sure of any Welsh riders who rode for them- Fred Powell maybe? Probably someone in forumland will know though.

Two Welsh riders who rode for Newport in the 1960s come to mind, Bob Hughes from Anglesey and Cyril Francis from Newport.

chunky
Two more Welshmen to appear for Newport were Graig Gough (handful of meetings in 1999 and 2001), and Pete Rodger, who had a sole outing in 1975. Both were Newport-born.
