A full field of sixteen for the Finnish Championship at Kauhajoki on 13th February.

Changes coming, no doubt if you look at some of the names. Nothing confirmed yet.

Are they still planning to ride Togliatti on Feb 13-14?

FIM and MFR are still trying to arrange the visas.

Me thinks we closed our borders yesterday.

Not wanting to be a the d1ckhead I am, my life here at Tampere FI is almost close to normal. We had home schooling last spring that was a nightmare, especially maths, so I had to miss some work. But as 2020 goes as a zhh1tty year, covid goes with the other crap...  Just waiting for the crap to hit the fan via kids and kindergarten.

I had a good chuckle today at a couple of Speedway Mail magazines from 1997, which came in the post today.

In reviewing the World Team Cup (1997), the article bemoaned the lack of western riders coming through (no changes there), stating that the likes of Serenius and Svensson couldn't go on for ever (Svensson riding in the GPs again this year)...

In the review of the World Semi-Finals, it referred to the non-qualifier, Frankie Zorn as 'promising.'

Also featured and still riding today were the likes of Aki-Ala Rihimaki and Harold Simon...

Ice racers truly do ride on and on...

Reading on the German forum that riders have got thumbs up to apply for their Russian visas and that things are looking positive for a short sharp world cup in Togliatti B)

Found this on Speedway Press Russia http://www.speedway-press.ru/2021/01/janMFRmlstepanov.html

Basically, if the riders get their Visas sorted as soon as possible, then the meeting will go ahead. Looks like a few strings have been pulled!

Query question for those who are more informed than I.

What ever happened to ice speedway in Belarus? Prior to the millennium, there were a number of riders on the international scene, such as Oleg Khomich. Were these Russians riding under a license of convenience, or was there proper ice racing in Belarus?

Russians with a Belarus license, others had a Polish (the Ivanovs) or German (Nikulin) license. Afaik there was no ice racing in Belarus.

I think you are right that there was no ice racing in Belarus, but I thought Viktor Sidorenko who raced in the 97 ice final was a genuine Belarusian. He had moved over to ice from shale in the mid 90s.

Was he actually Russian as well?

On a couple of other points there was a Mongolian rider I think ?

And I just wondered what happened to East German riders? Sure they had representation in the early world championships. And would have thought they would have been perfect for racing in Russia. Wonder why they disappeared of the scene. Political or lack of a track ?
