Can't be long before this country does the same re banning mass gatherings..

When so many nations are starting to do it then it will leave you open to much criticism if you stay out and do your own thing..

And could look like a dereliction of duty should it become a major disaster..

Even more reason for people to get out and support the Ben fund meeting this weekend... Maybe the last speedway seen for a while?

I'm no fan of Boris but think he got this perfectly right so far.

Many are banning "mass gatherings" as political decisions made by Government because they think they know best!

In UK we seem to be basing on decisions of Health professionals.

Their current opinion is that the virus passes and transfers less well in fresh air and that there is less risk in a big crowd (up to 70,000 has been quoted) than in a small confined indoor place with 10 people.

Who is right and who is wrong, a Health professional or a professional politician. (time will tell).

i think Boris's judgement is that while less than a 100 people a day are being confirmed to have it and deaths are exclusively so far with elderly people with a pre-condition that public mood is to carry on. The outcry from soccer fans in particular with the statistical numbers as they are and the infection / death rate would be a huge groundswell of anger.

Who is right and who is wrong we wont know for months, may be years.

I think there are more specific issues for Speedway to consider rather than a blanket ban, such as rider travel and age dynamic of supporter base.

Ultimately if Birmingham are allowed to race I will make the judgement on a week to week basis, risk of going v reward of entertainment. At the moment I see no reason not to go and hopefully for as long as possible every individual will be able to make that judgement for themselves.

IF we got to Italian situation may be different. Seems China and Korea have managed to reduce spread markedly. I do wonder if we'd have been as bad as we are if hadn't been half term and a lot of tourism to Italy as most of the confirmed UK cases seem linked to trips there and contact with visitors there.

Interested to know who the ‘many’ countries are that are making political decisions, rather than taking advice from Health experts ?

One of the worlds leading experts is advising the German government and has been at the news conferences with the Health Minister

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/mutations-can-reveal-how-coronavirus-moves-they-re-easy-overinterpret

Also reading the ‘current opinion’ of Sir Patrick Vallance , what he say’s is and this is important and what you leave out, is that it MAY be less likely, not that there ‘is less risk’

Speedway will have no problems. Outdoor sport in the open air with very little crowding.

Sadly, in one way, that is how it was at The Dirt Track Show last weeeknd at King;s Lynn. I hugely enjoyed the brilliant new young generation of speedway riders ( Oh Max Perry! ) and the 2 Brothers Stunt Show 9/10 on Saturday, but I was the only person in one part of the Disabled seating. And no one was with two or thteee metres. But a very poor turn out in good weather conditions.

Dr Harries on BBC Breakfast News:

"The virus will not survive very long outside," she said. "Many outdoor events, particularly, are relatively safe.""

So self isolate and stay indoors... errmmm...

It will be interesting to see what happens as a result of the Notts Forest owner testing positive for the virus. He was at a match on Friday.

Yep, Wolves due to play Olympiakos (who he also owns) on Thursday in Athens.

Game already due to be behind closed doors. Now likely to be called off.

Poland has  now banned mass gatherings, the Grand prix in Warsaw must now be in doubt.

Perhaps we can get Zmarzlik et al riding in the British League then... every cloud...

Serious question following the latest Italian 'lockdowns', will it affect Ipswich and Kent re Nico Covatti??

And will Amanda Castagna be allowed to attend FIM and SGP meetings?

You would have thought not in the case of Castagna.

As for people like Covatti that have presumably recently returned from their homeland, have they been medically checked?

Covatti returns to Britain from his homeland ARGENTINA, where he has spent the winter months!

Thats good news then as he's in Middlo's line-up on 25th March. So I guess neither he nor his family will be going to (or back from) the family home in Italy then?!

Rightly so.

Olympiakos owner has been in UK for 2 weeks.. and seems caught it in the UK.

All Olympiakos staff and players have tested negative.

There has been a death from Covid-19 in Wolverhampton.. zero in Athens.

373 cases in UK... 80 in Greece... 0 in Athens I believe.

Game being played behind closed doors.

They're 'safer' there than here... not that they are in any danger whatsoever anyway.
