This virus is serious I'm not suggesting I will go if over 70s are banned i will have to follow the rules and the chances are Speedway wont be running anyway. What I do think though is to tell over 70s to stay indoors for a long period of time is not going to stop the virus it will though help to protect vulnerable people but surely common sense can prevail, stay in if your ill or vulnerable, if your healthy going for walks etc but not having direct contact with others can't do any harm, better than sitting in, none of us know when our time is up why waste it.

There, thats better.  We have enough problems with our goverment and brain box heath secretary without adding to it. Common sense, many seem to lack it.

This virus is a bit more serious than the common cold. I'm a big football and speedway fan, if both sports are stopped, we just have to accept it. I went to Maidenhead for football yesterday. A big crowd turned out, which suggests to me that the public will continue to go, until they are forced to stay indoors.

I often have a look at live web cams from around the world, as I find it facinating  to have a look at other countries and cultures in real time.  Over the last few days you can notice how deserted places have become. One example is the Trevi Fountain in Italy. Its a major tourist attraction, and always has hundreds of people in front of it, day or night, sometimes 30 deep at the front of the fountain. Have a look at it today, hardly a person in sight, really spooky!

Influenza can lead to thousands of deaths a year. The World Health Organisation estimates that an average of up to 500,000 people die annually across the globe due to the flu. In 2008-2009 there were 13,000 deaths in the UK alone related to the flu. The coronavirus is not nearly as deadly as the common flu, which experts have warned should still take priority in the medical battle...

I understand that, but we have never had a potential lockdown in my lifetime. That's what scares people, hence all of the panic buying.

You've never had the media screaming about it either.

And that's the point.. it's not the virus that is scary... its the panic caused by the media.. that panic causes places organisations to act.. 

Then politics comes into play and the opposition in countries uses it to their advantage and whips up people and criticises governments for inaction... so they're forced to act.

The UK has actually been the strongest government in trying not to bow to this pressure... but as organisations around them such as the Premier League cave in, it leaves them out on their own and will soon be forced to do the same.

The collateral damage from all of this panic is going to be massive... the damage from the virus, very very minor indeed (on a world scale).

No.Hasn't it been said enough times, you shouldn't pack the children off to the grandparents ? I have heard it said a number of times. Maybe it is only in Germany they are giving out good advice though. I can't always remember which source or country have given out certain advice

All I can say, is that here they have closed schools but have emergency places open so you can take your children there. It is no good closing schools and then having emergency workers having to stay home to look after children. They are supposed to only be used for emergencies though and not every tom,dick and harry dropping their children off. At the same time, they are legally obliged to take in children if the parents insist

It'll mean some promoters have got to isolate too, so how will that work as well.

At 76-years of age, I'm the youngest person living in my immediate area, and if I've got to self isolate, how do I get thing like milk and bread to keep me going???

Not sure which country it was, but people will be fined and possibly imprisoned if they ignore. Maybe the UK goes down that route maybe not. But I imagine like a lot of these things like not feeding the birds and attracting rats, very few people get fined and even less imprisoned....

For many Iris, they wouldn't have any other choice.

What's the point of closing schools, then just sticking the children in another location, all together still anyway? Not an attack, just wondering what the rationale is.

Lots of areas are setting up residential care systems to look out for aged residence.

If you are in an area of aged people then it’s likely you will be contacted.

We go back to the old efficient days of it being delivered by horse drawn van, same way as they delivered beer and pop in my youth. And you even get free manure for your gardens if you follow the horse for long enough.
