Happy Hunter
Several of the tracks I have been to have limited undercover seating so I take my own lightweight fold up seat and, if it looks like raining, some waterproofs. Simples!
hammer1969
If speedway wants to attract new (and younger) supporters facilities need to be brought into the 21st century. They don't have to be state of the art but paying customers should at least be able to access decent toilets, buy food and drink and have a choice of seating or bring their own seat if they prefer. We all know speedway can be a dusty sport to watch on a dry/hot day I hope nobody forgets to shut the windows on the new gym building if speedway returns. Wonder where the referees box will be relocated to?

Apparently the old grandstand is now going to be a gymnastics club I would have thought the ‘showroom’ BMR constructed next to the old stand would be more suited to a gym.

Gymnastics rather than gym. Needs a high ceiling apparently.
Greg
I for one hope Rye can get a team and how the country is at the moment could do them a favour to get sorted .
Rayleigh
Been past the stadium today. Whilst all locked up and only basic viewing from the canal toepath: The front car park is completely tiled and looks impressive (anyone remember the moon craters) No BMR sign as you enter the car park from the road The outside of the gym seems completed (where chip shop was) First and second bend terracing levelled with slight gradient, (should prove a spectator viewing point). Pits and Tempstand as before

RobMcCaffery
I think the angle is a little deceptive. I don't think it gets that close, bearing in mind there used to be a dog track outside the fence. Worrying to see that spectators could well be denied most of the home straight, The old stand was a flaming nuisance, operationally and was very poorly designed but at least it gave people a decent view of the home straight, A case of 'wait and see' I suppose. Keep the faith. As long as the track's there we still have a chance.
Mimmo
If they do reopen eventually, what covered seating will be available that is disabled people friendly?
GWC
Well the refs box will be needed and not sure where it will be sited now. Perhaps it will move to the other side with seating all along the straight. Bit of a squeeze though.

It's always been out of alignment with the start line, as was its predecessor which I am very familiar with. No room on the back straight unless you bring the track back in. Rayleigh
Unfortunately the road behind the back straight has been halfed (half owned by stadium and half by the caravan site) and this half is now used as the access road to the Karting ,in short I guess there is less room on the back straight unless the track is brought back in. Actually, that is not true. While I have never been a weekly visitor to Rye, I did go on odd occasions when there was a meeting that interested me. I remember that a new referees box was constructed more or less alongside the original one and it most certainly was opposite the starting line. I think the change came after a couple of top international meetings were staged, but I may be mistaken on that point. I'm pretty sure that when the new box was installed, the front part of the old box was taken down which gave the ref in the new box vision of the 1st bend. There was a lot of talk about it among fans at the time with opinions mostly in favour as I recall.

Relying on old memories here so I can't comment on all subsequent box positions but the last one seems to have been pretty much as far from the start as my era's. To be in line with the start it would have been very tight against the main stand. I know it's been a while now but I did spend about 150 meetings in the old box. Apart from announcing I was the timekeeper and that involved determining race order at the end of each lap, including the final result so I was pretty focussed on how difficult it was to compensate for the angle and distance from the line. It would have been interesting to work in its replacement(s) but that wasn't to be. Edited May 25, 2020 by RobMcCaffery

The refs box had to be moved in line with the start to get FIM accreditation to run international events. This was done and then the old refs box became the home of T2TV when filming meetings I believe. Something tells me that the ref’s box was once again repositioned after the BMR takeover but my interest had waned by that time so I didn’t attend much and I can’t be 100% sure.

I lost touch during the FIM period. Certainly the box seen in photos and on TV was not in alignment. I'd hoped to find out for myself in 2018 after my illness but they'd gone bust before my recovery!
