There’s also a good few that have said no cause of the travel.

Bless them....

A good job they are not Young Aussie lads....

1000 mile round trips (and sometimes more) just to practice...:o

And then you have to travel halfway around the globe to earn a living if you find you are good enough to do so...

They need to make money somehow... And if travelling from Kent to Edinburgh once a week (not to mention any away meetings in the likes of Manchester) isn't financially viable, they would be dead in the head to accept it, there's no money in speedway and it's not worth financially crippling yourself for years for the sakes of one season in the NL

So why set the points limit so high ?

The points limit isn't "so high" it's just what the average team should have ended on, do keeps at last year's standards.

Lowering the points limit has led to NL heat leaders stepping up & struggling in the Champ Ablitt & McGurk for example.

Totally agree but it has moved the problem to bottom of NDL not many new starters

This is where the NDL has a problem as its doesn't know what it wants to be. Higher limit, "higher standard" or a Lower limit and be a conveyor belt pushing riders in, through and up into the next levels?.

Unfortunately as the NDL is now governed heavily by higher powers and has few standalone teams to back their own corner it will continue to lurch to and fro with a succession of more radical changes rather than a long term plan of stability. The NDL has long been the saviour of British speedway and yet it is rarely treated that way.

Either the CL standard needs dropping (which won't please many CL fans) so most the PL riders are too good and are pushed out into only the top league

Or

The NL standard needs raising (Stefan Nielsen, Ashley Morris, Drew Kemp type riders in 1 and 5) AND the Junior leagues need proper backing, so the bottom end NL riders now don't have to race against the likes of Stefan, Drew or Ashley, but race against similar standard riders in the junior leagues

CL standard doesn't necessarily need dropping but maybe capping top end places/averages could be an answer?

How would NDL teams be able to operate and afford Nielsens, Kemps etc along with the existing heat leaders and second strings. Upping the standard to accommodate riders who have found their level in the CL would see the NL in the same mess as the CL is now, namely clogged up with double uppers/downers who are bumping their earnings from easier pickings.

No doubting that the junior leagues needed proper backing from both the authorities and the host clubs. However rider numbers are down simply because the prospect of doing silly miles, for silly short track time (if indeed they get out at all) and for zero returns has quashed the enthusiasm of many a rider and volunteer.

The nl standard this year is perfect imo.

What cut off average do u have from cl to nl to allow to race in nl?

Surely most Aussie lads just need to drive a bit inland & find a bit of scrub land to practice?

The Fen Tigers 2023 team is complete!

The Mildenhall DJS Fen Tigers, proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery are very pleased to announce that the final part of their 2023 team is 18 year old North Walsham racer William Richardson. William was a regular during 2021 practising at the club after meetings and took his place in the U21 Semi Final as an unattached rider in April 2022. After making an excellent start in his opening race he was clipped by another rider which resulted in a season ending leg injury.

Now fully fit and raring to go the Norfolk youngster is determined to make a success of this opportunity. Everyone at the club will be fully supporting William as he makes his initial steps in league racing. William starts thason on a 3 point average.

Let's give William a massive Fen Tiger family welcome!

Taken from britishspeedway.co.uk

“Also by putting the start time back an hour to 4pm we will have more time for track preparation to cope with the range of weather conditions that can affect a speedway track – more time to dry out if that’s needed, and more time to deal with a dry track in the heat of summer.”

While that all makes sense, what if you've got a dry day but rain forecast from 5pm? While it's not ideal for fans planning ahead, being able to change the start team each week depending on the weather might help get meetings on?

You can't help the weather. Impossible to keep chopping and changing the start

It was stated in the programme on Sunday attendances of 450 are hoped for,I was wondering if the attendance was at that level.

Probably not, but it was undoubtedly up on last season, and the speedy conclusion should ensure that the trend remains positive.
