2021 season

There really is going to be a massive gap between the teams next year due to the fact that swindon and sheffield and to a lesser extent belle vue have a few potential no1s leaving the likes of Peterborough and Ipswich with no no1s.

I don't like that.

Next year there should be some sort of draft. Riders need to be graded now.

Pot a

Pot b

Pot c

Etc etc.

For example riders in pot a

Doyle,batch,lambert,kurtz,cook,nicki,holder,masters,thorsell

There are 9 riders there capable of riding at no1. There are enough to go around, but if you choose 2 of the 'pot a' riders then you dont get a choice of a 'pot b or c' rider. If you choose two 'pot b' riders you don't get a pick from pot 'c or d' etc.

Swindon and sheffield are going to run away with it this year closely followed by wolves and belle vue. Theres Going to be a massive gap. That's not fair at all.

Add to that Swindon will win most home matches if not all by 20 points. Can any club afford to pay that out for a whole season.

Let's make the league fair again and try get 7 competitive teams together

Nownim going to disappear and ignore the replies lol

The question is why can't Peterborough and Ipswich attract a number 1?

In Peterboroughs case they should of returned to the Championship there just the whipping boys of the premiership now and attracting a number 1 is not the promotions main objective its to applease the tv contract all they want is to just sign anyone that others mostly dont want or need this season and hope they will ride for the money on offer,

I think you may be overrating Sheffield a little and if you are including Lynn in the also rans then that’s nothing to do with our spearhead but poor choices lower down the order.

In essence though I agree, with such a small league I think the top men probably need sharing round a bit more. If for example Batchelor was sent to Ipswich and Cook to Peterborough the league would be a lot more balanced.

We've been over this subject time and again and it's just not possible. To many factors in the way. Rider's wages are one thing, with certain clubs pay better than others. Rider has to be interested.

As an example not fact:-

Jason Doyle is on £400 a point, he has to go to Peterborough who can only afford £200 a point. Should he have to accept that? Of course not, he'd probably feel better off giving the UK a miss.

It was bad enough when a draft system was used for reserves. Some rider's refused due to distences to travel etc.

If a team can afford 4 heatleaders and other clubs can't, so be it. That's sport.

In summary - all the teams that Chapman isn't involved with?  Remember that titles are not won on paper - look at Ipswich last year.

Doyle isn’t the best example as he wouldn’t be the one leaving Swindon under Phil’s proposal.

Word on the street is that Buster has nothing to do with Ipswich.

I think you would find that telling any rider who they must for would be a breach of employment law unless they all signed central BSPA contracts.

Quite right Buster has nothing to do with ipswich

I wrote a system down earlier in the year & it was based on Grades of A(3) B(2) & C(1). Teams are made up of a 6 man team but a 7 man squad. The team has a maximum limit of 12.

This gives teams 3 x A + 3 x C,      2 x A + 2 x B + 2 x C,    1 x A + 4 x B + 1 x C,     6 x B

The team also has a maximum average of 36 so no team is getting the top average rider in the grades.

With this system, though, riders get 5 rides on average so the riders average would have to be per ride making an average between 0 & 3. The team average for this system would be 10.

The 7th(squad) rider can be any graded rider but is used for injuries & unavailability ( riding in other countries) only. When used the maximum of grade & team average must be applied.

Any riders not picked in the initial declarations go in to a "Guest Pot". These riders, also, have grades & averages. A "guest" cannot turn out for any team, in any competition, more than 4 times.

This gives more teams a rider identity & removes the use of guests from other teams.

Why wouldn't he? In a draft system Swindon wouldn't have a choice who they have. Draft systems usually work by the worst team having first pick the following season. In that case, why would anyone leave Doyle for Swindon to have.

Also, gradings are so unfair too.

Doyle 8.96

Batchelor 8.82

Pedersen 8.61

Lambert 7.81

Cook 7.78

Kurtz 7.54

Holder 7.49

Masters 7.35

Thorsell 7.33

You'd feel a bit peeved to be left with Masters as No1. What happens with the 2 not picked?

Drafts system =Daft systems

Yep fair play, I misread what Phil wrote. I don’t think a draft like that would work but some kind of rider control might although I appreciate you could stop some riders wanting to ride here if they refused to go where told. While I agree with what Stevo has said about solid teams also doing well in previous seasons we don’t want a situation where for example two teams are marooned at the bottom of a seven team league and way under strength because they don’t have any top end power while the best teams have two or three number ones. That does nobody any good.

Regarding riders told where to go, Olsen to Hull springs to mind!

Don't think it would work. Ultimately riders go where the best money is so essentially forcing people to go to certain teams will only end in tears.

We have seen versions of this in the past and all it did was force better riders out of the league.

Sadly as a Wolves fan, I remember it only too well. In exchange for the World Champion we got, with respect, Jim McMillan and Tommy Johansson. However Johansson never turned a wheel for us and we ended using rider replacement all season. And whilst Olsen was allocated to Hull he never rode for them and ended up at our local rivals Coventry ! Screwed, I think, is the phrase !
