no-brakes-uk
Anyone know if the 2020 TV deal with Eurosport is for domestic speedway only or if it includes GPs, SON and other FIM events?
ScunnyDan
Just premiership and championship... BT will still cover GPs and SON
Bavarian
This week's Speedway Star has an interesting 4-page feature story about the future of sports & speedway on television.
krompa
Any idea if Premiership will be live on TV every 2 weeks or every week?
waytogo28
However often it is broadcast live , there is still no confirmation that it will be on Free to Air channels ( only the suggestion that a highlights prgamme will be ). The BSPA were more concerned about the income stresm for the clubs than who could see it free.

They could limit the match coverage to one heat at 4 am and they'd be happy. It's got nothing to do with serving the fans. Last time Eurosport had the GPs they only used the free Quest channel when there was no room on Eurosport. A highlights programme of any sport bar football would be a first on Quest which is otherwise almost totally a "Best of Discovery" factual channel. We shall see. Things could have changed. Hopefully that's true.
IainB
Makes you wonder how good the Eurosport TV deal actually is if GB can't afford to run behind closed doors where Sweden can run to crowds of 50... Of course we'll never know but it can't be that good of a deal

Of course we'll never know but it can't be that good of a deal its about the % of TV meetings in these circumstances though or rather the % of none TV meetings with no crowds. Much less fixtures in Sweden and Poland. Whereas in this country they'd have to have run many loss making none televised meetings without crowds, to maintain the integrity of the competition. Of course they could have thought outside the box and arranged a much reduced competition which was affordable within the TV revenue and would still fulfill the contract. Had they have done it quickly enough it might have been one of the first live sports to appear during lockdown and who knows what the audience might have been. But they didn't. Or maybe you're right and the TV deal isn't worth a bean so it wasn't worth trying to secure the income from it? Either way someone dropped a bollock.

Isn't this what Sweden have done? I believe not everybody is riding against everybody else... Not sure what the setup is but they are on track

Not sure what the setup is but they are on track Sweden has 8 teams and they are meeting the other teams just once- so that makes 7 matches. In order that each team rides 4H and 4 A they have introduced an extra round where the teams will have a " derby match " which means they meet 6 teams once and 1 team twice. Mind you they are having QF`s with all 8 taking part.

ShyTalk
Hi just been told by a BT staff member that, sometime in the future, Eurosport will no longer be available as part of BT or Sky packages (not sure about Virgin Media}. Is there anyone who can confirm, or deny this, or give any more information on this. I am wondering if it will be available independently in the same way as Premier sports. Any info appreciated. Thanks

I've read on here and from various Clubs own comments that a PL home / away you can budget 15k and a CL home/away you can budget 10k. So, lets say a PL Club is getting a share of 50k - would cover 3 home and away, 100k would cover 6 home and away. Barely scratches the surface of a full season. But, Sweden managed to run, a truncated, season in front of crowds of 50 people, that wouldn't be anywhere near enough to fund a meeting. I assume that the shortfall was made up by sponsorship and a TV deal. All I was saying is that as the UK couldn't do the same I take it that the Eurosport TV deal with BSPL wasn't as good as that in Sweden

Chadster
I got an email about renewing my BT TV deal. Checking the new packages on offer, there was no mention of Eurosport.

Thanks Not that I am aware of in fact in 2021 Sky will be working even closer with Eurosport including having a UHD HDR channel which will be used to show the Olympics and some Tennis in UHD HDR What may and must stress May be leaving Sky,VM and BT Tv is Eurosport player and catch up services as Discovery (Owners of Eurosport) are keen to separate them from tv carriage deals and are looking to monetise them better with some sports being on Eurosport player when there is clashes. That is my worry for British Speedway is this get pushed online when Tennis,Cycling and Olympics are on

Bizarrely they decided not to include it in the 'sport' package. https://www.bt.com/packages/classic If you're up for renewal check out Plusnet TV, exactly the same package as the 'classic' above but half the price. https://www.plus.net/entertainment/tv/ Edited October 27, 2020 by Noodles
