steve roberts
Just now, Ajr said: Sad news indeed, having lost my club (Workington) It is a big miss, hopefully the Robins will return in 2022. These unforseen times will test the sport to the limit and my great fear is that Swindon will not be the only club to decide upon this strategy, indeed I fear for the future of the sport, how many riders will retire and look elsewhere to make a living? This coming year will be critical to the sport, let's hope it can survive it. Is the stadium now to be totally developed (as the plan was always to be in my opinion) or is there another agenda? cinderfella
If this isn't a good reason for combining the Premier and Championship leagues I don't know what is.
BuxtonTiger
How much has been spent on storage since 2017?
Steve0
A good early call IMHO - if things were clearer then TR may have been prepared to take the risk. It is likely that some sort of disruption to our lives will continue until the vaccine is rolled out sufficiently - so expect lockdowns, tier restrictions etc until then. The likelihood is under 50s won’t get their first vaccine until August or September (unless they have a medical need to have it earlier) so I would expect significant impact to all sports in 2021 sadly. If (and it’s a big if) they can roll it out quicker then they may have a chance of a curtailed season. cdakev
I for one can completely understand their decision but i'm still disappointed as i will have no local club to watch. As others have said i'm sure other teams may follow in sitting out. I just hope that Swindon do return in 2022.
Speedtiger
No sure how old TR is but must be in his 70’s. Swindon losing money, the stadium not going to happen and the whole sport in a deep mess so maybe he’s decided enough is enough! Who could blame him. Pinny
The end of Swindon Speedway. Another Southern track gone. No way will a new stadium ever be built, this virus is the perfect excuse to close the place down once and for all. Used to love my trips to Swindon with the Wasps , watching on the fourth bend. Quality.
Phil The Ace
Are the dogs still going to run when the so called stadium works are being carried out??? If they are then I'd say that's the biggest indication that speedway won't be running for this year and TR knows this so let his fans know early
Chris
Think that'll be the last you'll see of speedway in Swindon. Sad.

salty
With Clark Osborne involved the only thing that would surprise me is if they end up with the promised new stadium.
topaz325
Hopefully Speedway can return in 2022 to Swindon, all to often when clubs close for whatever reason the sport is lost to the town...Workington, Coventry,Hull,Newport, Oxford etc.
Ovalman
If Swindon don't re-open what a great last meeting at Blunsdon that was..Double Winners and hundreds chanting and singing..unforgettable evening
Grachan
5 hours ago, thecoombdog said: No fans will be back until they are in the new stadium. Indeed. A statement by Clarke Osbourne that must set alarm bells ringing. For years there have been excuses for the stadium not being built. Will we, from 2022, be seeing excuses for the sport not returning, with the same statements about the stadium being built soon and that speedway will be back once it is built, and these statements going on for a few more years? I think that in Rosco and Lee Kilby we have a promotion who would bust their balls to help find a new location for the sport if it was needed, but they can't do that until this one is finished with. I hope that speedway will be back in Blunsdon next year, but there has to be doubt from that statement. To quote directly: "we do not anticipate any public attendance until the new customer facilities are in place." Think about that. How long ago was it that they all sat on a digger in the car park and indicated that work was due to start?
Haza
The alleged new stadium won’t happen now I’d have thought wasn’t it going stage a round of WU21 a few season ago ? and why with houses surrounding the existing stadium would you build in the car park ? That said it’s a very sad day for the sport sadly I feel others will follow Swindon with everything so uncertain how can any club plan for the season ahead how can riders plan ? by not running in 2021 there is certainty .

BartoszZmarzlikFan
Jason Doyle should tell the Robins management to get stuffed going forward. They've turned Doyley right over after he committed to them by dropping Sweden.
The Cheese
If this was actually going to end with Swindon taking their place next season in the new stadium then it would be a positive step. Unfortunately I think we all know how this is really going to end. Always seemed unlikely it would ever happen and now Covid is the perfect excuse for Stadia UK to not go through with it
