I would think that with all the heavy machinery and ancillary work taking place, workmen would not want to be interrupted by sightseers. Leave it to postings on here,, and visit after Xmas and then there will be changes to be seen I would imagine.

Yeah good reasoning that ...........but when your hungry for anything relating to speedway it's just hard to resist.

Why do they target northside so often?!!

5 days ago they broke down barriers that were stopping access to Northside area, now gypos are back (after been off for a couple of months) and this weekend lots of damage caused, make your own mind up who caused it !!! And the local police are doing an impression of French police in Calais.  I see nothing

The police just don't bother with "Travelers" to hard to nail down, any minor crime they conveniently disappear, so it doesn't look good with crime solved results!                                               They (85%) are a lawless bunch that get away with anything other than murder!

There had been an exclusion order placed on the site with Red boundary lines set up and unfortunately the council? police? (someone?) failed to renew this exclusion order and it run out (Friday I believe)… so they are back...

Get some wildlife monitors/cameras in & link them to phones so know when activated or get security teams in until gypos have been evicted.

Good idea but cost starts to be an issue

As it happens this lot are a nasty bunch so I have been told (particularly nasty) and although I have seen nothing in the local press yet they apparently mugged someone at knife point at a cash machine last week

We had similar issues a few years back when they broke in & took bikes & quads. The police were called & even though they were riding around on these bikes in the near vicinity & the club said "those are our bikes", the police could still not do a thing. There was, also, another time the "scum" were in the area & over 20 manhole covers were removed from the industrial site nearby & probably sold for scrap.

If you take on the gypos then you need to be prepared to go the whole hog, they will retaliate to the last man.

Is it worth getting mixed up with that lot ,( gypo scum & I say best to walk away rather than fight them ) coz they never give a toss about the sort of damage they can cause

True...

That's the issue though as they have become untouchable... even the Police don't bother with them... it seems to be an uneasy truce... if they keep their heads down and don't cause to many problems the Police give them a wide berth.... as someone has already mentioned we had something similar with a sub contractor drainage guy who had his van and gear stolen however because it was specialist stuff it had to be insurace tested and all the serial numbers logged... he found out someone was selling his gear on eBay and he went along and confirmed it was his then rang the Police and the Police said was it insured and when he said yes they said well best if you don't cause a scene and move on... when he said he used this kit on a weekly basis and it would take 3 or 4 month to replace and he couldn't work without it the Police said just claim loss of earnings of the insurance as well... when he said that wasn't the point and were they going to do anything about it they said no...

His insurance premiums trebled from 600 quid to 1800 a year... they are a law unto themselves... and that was the scum at the Lemington site on the outskirts of Newcastle...

The unfortunate thing about Northside is it is an open site on a dune area under the many windmills. The previous owners tried to enclose it, but the damage just continued being caused by gypsies in caravans alongside the track. They were then cleared off that site, with council help, hence the enthusiasm to turn the site into something that could be developed into a Redcar type site. Even with an expensive spiked metal fence surrounding the whole site, which would not be cost effective, it would not solve the problem as it would probably just provide the gypsies with a new supply of metal which would be stolen on a regular basis. Perhaps a local councillor could help with the establishment of a sport in Workington, as it was thought that with the cockups by the council, and the other stadium owners in the Town, regarding the other stadia, they appeared to have thought that by helping Northside now it would make up for their incompetence previously. Let's hope the council stand by that enthusiasm,  and stand up to the thugs who could deprive the Town with a sport facility that they currently lack.

They not only have the backing of local councillors they have the support of the local MP but with what they are dealing with in lawless scum who opt out of society it will always be a difficult situation until possibly the whole site is developed and there is no land for them to park up on...
