Honestly

Kelsey Duggard must be a shoe in for the Gems; he is living in the North East now; will be swinging the spanner's for the Slovenian GP rider this season and comes in on a bargain 3.35 average.

Also if you are looking to give local talent a go... Don't forget Dean Douglas... (No relation to Kieran)

Max Clegg IS eligible!

He's got a CL average above 4.00 and has a CL team place? Or am I misunderstanding the rules... If he is eligible... GET HIM SIGNED UP AS THE NUMBER 1

Forgot about Kelsey... Good shout, although if he's spannering for Nick and Nick is in Heat 15... It'll be a bit tight for Kelsey will it not? Wouldn't say 3.35 is a bargain, but he'd be a solid reserve imo... When was the last time he rode Brough? Don't recall him doing second halves?

Dean is not ready imo... He should stick to the NJL for sure... No offence to him but it would be like Danny in the CL... In the deep end too soon, and he'd get nowhere

Without checking the rules, I think Max said such at the Talk-in before Christmas.

Aye... It's a bit of a shame how a young Brit like Max isn't allowed to ride in his own nation's development league

Max said after the closure of  stoke and cradley not running he didn’t want to do NL and concentrate all his efforts on Newcastle, that’s not to say he won’t ride in the trophy meetings for them now..he’s pretty close to dave Tattum as well.

There is no maximum Championship ave to stop a rider racing in NL, only rule is you can only sign ONE rider who has averaged above 4.00! So technically Edward Kennett could double down in NL (will never happen I know)!

19.6.2 A Rider’s MA will be based upon their latest (attained during the seasons 2013 – 2018 only) NDL
or PL/SGBC MA (multiplied by 2 and subject to a minimum / maximum converted MA’s being 2.00 / 12.00. NB. Where a rider has both a previous PL/SGBC and NDL MA, the highest will apply.

How do you know he's riding in the national league ? As nothing has been mentioned to date !!

It was in response to some suggesting he should ride for the Gems team.. Simple really he shouldn't be in the NL anymore we need to avoid riders who aren't ever going to make it passed Reserve/Second String using the NL to prop themselves up, That league should be for improving youngsters

Commercially there is a need to have big scorers to keep the team in the meeting, and to set an example to the youngsters . Youngsters thrashing around without guidance will take a lot longer to get where they want to be. If a group of youngsters are getting thrashed by full strength opponents at home, it doesn't please the home crowd who might withdraw their support as some fans insist on a victory whenever possible. Old hands can give advice with riding lines and bike preparation, and  also give the give team a lift with their encouragement and experience.

Totally agree, however when does a youngster become an old hand or when does an old hand become to old.

Blurred lines :D

I read that as meaning a 6+ Championship rider can ride in NL with a 12.00 ave?

The effect of the rule is that any rider with a CL average of over six would have a converted NDL average of over twelve so would be ineligible.

Perhaps the rule has changed for 2020 - the rule I quoted was from the 2019 Speedway Regulations.

Any NDL team that signs a 12+ rider is going to be very top-heavy......
