I'm considering taking my in laws to Poole for their 50th wedding anniversary over the August bank holiday weekend. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel & restaurant please ?

I've not stayed there for some years but the Sandbanks hotel was always nice and in a fabulous location

Sandbanks Hotel is very good as are its sister hotels the Haven Hotel (also in Sandbanks) and the Harbour Heights in Canford Cliffs.

The Sandbanks has a very good on-site Chinese Restaurant - assuming nothing has changed due to the Covid???

The club recommends the Hotel Du Vin in Thames Street, Poole. Food and accommodation top notch (but top prices too - particularly August Bank Holiday weekend I imagine.)

The wife likes the look of the Thistle hotel, has anyone stopped there. We also need a nice steakhouse if we go, any suggestions ?

The Crown Hotel just off a The Quay for dinner, but would need to book- my favourite, excellent food, great service & reasonable prices

Is the Thistle still open? There was talk some while ago about a complete demolition and re-built hotel/apartments etc?! Also several decent restaurants on and around the quay area.

Ranchos Steak House is good on the quay.

They are advertising on Booking.Com, but saying temporally closed. Thought that was Covid 19, but would appreciate anyone being able to confirm this please.

Is this a Poole speedway site or Trip Adviser?;):drink:

Now you've broken the ice on this topic......

Can I recommend the trip includes :-

1) A visit to see where the Baden-Powell statue used to be.

2) A cruise round Poole Harbour which my Dad says was where the Japs bombed the harbour and led to the Yanks joining in on WWII. ;):drink:

1. It’s still there.

2. Maybe they could bomb it again to make some improvements :rofl:

A classic in horrible Brandon conditions if I remember correctly.  A real thriller.

Correct Steve, conditions were awful, and how we came back and won that i will never know. Coventry literally threw it away.

Interesting interviews with young Mr Ford on Speedway GB website over the weekend.

He didn't seem over-confident that the Stadium would be available for Racing even if Government Crowd Restrictions are eased to a level at which clubs like Poole could viably open.

Read a while back about the Dogs not running and Greyhounds transferred to Tracks that are running.

Does that mean Pirates may join Glasgow in not running and waiting for 2021?

The return of greyhounds to Poole Stadium - as with Speedway - is based upon the same 'go-ahead' from Government, so that the furloughed stadium staff can return to work.
