Reason for ‘silence’ is due to dawn to dusk days finding funds and solutions. Exactly... UK Speedway had a very good operating model which gave lads who worked during the day a chance to earn "one weeks worth of money" from their day job every night they rode... Last couple of meetings to the eye; numbers have been down on the start of the season. Potentially may look better as still limited numbers in grandstand so people scattered around other parts of stadium bends 3+4 .... Shall await statement - all have better idea then. Hopefully Eastbourne can find a short term fix, but like Newcastle & Birmingham longer term prospects sound bleak! With all sponsorship values and cost invoices lodged with the BSPL for scrutiny and transparency... All wages then get paid via the BSPL, and any tracks found doing "something dodgy" via made up company sponsorship deals, or brown envelopes etc, then get kicked out.. Fans may even help police this as no fan would want their track to close trying to win a league that frankly has no kudos or financial benefit.. Super League has made a salary cap work with several "major clubs" being fined and docked points for contravening it.. It would obviously need complete compliance from all teams and have all working together for a common good.. And the budgets set should be clear so all clubs can decide what league they feel they can afford to compete in... The standard of each league, therefore the riders within them, is then set by the natural affordability of it, rather than an ego trip for certain promoters, over inflating costs to that particular league, and thus destabilising the sport.. I partly agree with what you say BUT and there are a few of them... Should there be a wage cap - Yes, but not too low. I've always been a believer that clubs should be able to sign who they want. If they can afford it without going **** up then why not. Poole are the prime example. It pulls the crowds in. If Man City or Chelsea are in town for an FA cup tie against your team who are in the lower rungs of the league system chances are you will go to that game. Your team may get stuffed but you'll go because you want to watch the best and who knows your team may even cause an upset. My late step-father once recalled his days of going to Coventry Speedway in the 50's. If you knew Split Waterman, Ronnie Moore, Freddie Williams, Jack Young and Ove Fundin were in town you would go to watch them. The stands would be packed and apparently they used to put extra buses on - how times have changed. All wages paid via the BSPL - so like umbrella payments.
