With a confirmed 41 point limit leaving 6.99 to play with I now cannot see beyond Aarnio ? Thing is he is a Scunny asset and a scorer home and away. I think Robs looking at "track specialists" to hopefully defend the EWR. Then looking for them to gel at least some of the time on their travels. Certainly Tommy and Tero have it in their locker to get big numbers. Bit will depend on fitness ? Tommy and Danny coming back from injury. We need to get condistancy from Jake and better from Josh away from home for sure. Jordan Palin needs some support in his debut season and Simon Lambert gives that. I can see that Stefan Nielsen also offers that. But Lamberts heavy scoring from reserve v Nielsens battle against injury and inconsistancy from that edges it for Lambert. All in all with a 41 point limit a team with Scunthorpe in its DNA on 40.85 should please "the homers" and gurantee more great action at the EWR in 2020. We might not win the league but we can certainly give it our best shot !
IronScorpion
In order to defend the EWR, as you say, Rob is probably looking at "track specialists" & bringing back assets could make this possible. I would put Howarth in that bracket as at one time, he was near on unbeatable, but at times, when he guested, he was carrying an injury or suffering with lack of confidence. He was a go to guy that never or hardly ever, said no. To me, now, the track HAS to be prepared to suit our riders. They need more track time pre season to sort & fine tune their set ups to the changes in track conditions. This is about changes made to the bikes after the 1st 4 or 5 heats as the track slickens off. Also, we could practice in the dry then wet the track as if we had just had a shower & the track conditions change, We need to prepare a track to make it slightly difficult for the away team. Looking back to 2012 under the old scoring system(3 points for winning by 7 or more) suited more technical tracks & others with an advantage, we only dropped 2 pts at home with no draws or losses. Quite an achievement. Then in 2013, we dropped12. In 2014, finishing 5th, we dropped only 5. From 2015 we had the new scoring system & it was around this time that the track was re-laid. This became our downfall in results but entertainment was seen as the priority. In '15 & '16 from 12 meetings, we lost 5 dropping 15 pts. In 2017 we finished 9th of 10 having lost 10 dropping 30 pts. In 2018 & '19 we finished 9th & 7th of 11 having similar records dropping 11 pts. Injuries play its part & we had a good team but suffered towards the end of 2012 but our choice of guests pulled us through. To be in the top 4, it seems that you can drop only 6 points. Any more & you have to make up for that loss on your travels.

A real EWR exponent ; giving us a great top four with Jake, Josh and Tommy. With Danny back and Jordan already declared thats 36.00 so 5.00 for the last place. Simon Lambert on 5.16 would push us over the 41.00 limit. Tough on SL who pressed his case at the end of last season with big numbers. However we do have a rider who fits !...Stefan Nielsen who just needs a bit more luck to stay clear of injury. He could defo nurse Jordan at reserve while being every bit as much capable as Lambert at putting in big scores from reserve. Jake Allen, Josh Auty, Kyle Howarth, Tommy Jorgensen, Danny Ayres, Stefan Nielsen & Jordan Palin. Thats a team of contenders !

Tosh1218
Think the team will be Jake ,Josh,Jordan and Tommy who are all confirmed With Danny Ayres ,Simon Lambert and Tero Aarnio to follow should be a good squad if staying injury free 1

IronScorpion
On the BSPA site, there is a news item for our award for track of the year in 2019. The picture is of a race but NOT at our track. Now changed. Edited November 18, 2019 by IronScorpion
thebaron
So all will be revealed tomorrow with the last 4 Scorpions in 2020 being officially handed their race jackets. Fairly sure that Josh Auty and Danny Ayres will be two of them. I cannot see any "suprise" if we bring back Tero Aarnio with due respect to Tero who would be a points scorer for sure. But the fact that Rob promised "suprise" to me implies a new face. Kyle Howarth would make us strong at home where its crucial we make the EWR a fortress. That leads me to think Stefan will get a recall. However I see he is linked with Poole in 2020 ?. But if Howarth was not to be ? How about US rider Ricky Wells ? not in Edinburghs plans and a big scorer in Championship circles. Always goes well at Scunny and a well prepared and professional racer. His average is lower than KH on 7.05 as well. ? Would be a starting line up of Allen, Auty, Wells, Jorgensen, Ayres, Lambert, Palin that stacks up at 41.06 can we get reduction on any of the averages to bring that in at 41.00 ? thebaron
Seem to have gone for our own assets. As much as this team should take care of things at the EWR. Not sure theres the level of consistency there to do well away and thats the difference ? One, two or three ? marks to start the season in there as well ? Certainly hope I am wrong ? Col
So Scorpions are likely to line-up: Auty Ayres Jorgensen Aarnio Allen Lambert Palin
IronScorpion
Jorgensen & Aarnio could be swapped round & would Palin get the easier no7 or the scoring power of Lambert at 7 for the team. The order of reserves can be swapped during a meeting so it will be about who is performing on the day. All the riders on their day can score well at the EWR & looking at the BSPA site, & at the away averages of the riders(with Palin still on a 2), we average 36.81, although the site is not up to date. Islander15
Having stayed loyal to Nielsen for a few years now, I think Rob has missed a trick by not getting him back on such a low average when he’s proved what he can do round the EWR. Rob also talks about the 1-7 all knowing the EWR, which is true, but on an even track without a power packed team the odd home defeat is inevitable (even Glasgow lost at home this year ) but it looks like away points are going to be very hard to come by! No new names to excite and intrigue the fans unfortunately. Yes I know that Palin is new but he’s there for development and a star of the future rather than immediate points scoring. At least Auty & Ayers offer bags of entertainment. Edited November 21, 2019 by Islander15
