Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020

Recommended Posts

Just looking further ahead to 2022, I just wanting to throw a few ideas out there in regards to meeting presentation etc. Please don't take this as a complaint or a moan as I 100% appreciate what we have, however there a are a few things I think could be done to improve the presentation of meetings. As a speedway fan most of these things don't concern me too much, however to newcomers, they may be more important. I would like to see the following next season if possible:

1) Upgraded PA System: Often race results, rider introductions etc are difficult to hear in numerous spots around the track due to the crackly PA System. Volume is often too low as well which makes things difficult to hear. Would be nice to have the system upgraded and checked before use. The microphone Rob uses on the centre green regularly breaks up.

2) More lighting on bend 1 terraces: At the start/end of the season with the darker nights, it is difficult to see your programme when filling in race results.

3) Smoother transitions between music/talking: On occasions the music is left on whilst the presenter/Rob is talking which makes it difficult to hear and is a bit "amateurish" and often long gaps of silence can be heard before the music restarts at the completion of the talking. I think a "tidy up" is required to ensure the presentation remains as professional as possible, particularly to outsiders as I have brought newcomers along on occasions and they have picked up on this.

4) Maybe re-introduce an interval: To allow time for an interview perhaps during the meeting, to get the thoughts of a rider or team manager to see how they feel the meeting is going? Most meetings this year have been completed quickly (which I agree is a good thing to do) however might be nice to have more engagement during the meeting.

Please feel free to agree/disagree, or add more comments. Like I said, just throwing a few ideas out there to how things can maybe done better.

Stumper I would say you are spot on with regards to the PA, it has been crap for a number of years and cuts in/out all the time. Secondly the lighting is very poor around the stands/bends & also including on the track, from the home straight you can't see the helmet colours of the riders on the opposite side, the lights shine directly at you and not the track.

From my one visit to Scunny I agree with all these points, perhaps the acquisition of a winners podium would be great too. I came to the British Under 19 Final, the presentation of the winners was shameful! Also don't Scunny have a roving mic?  It was embarrassing to watch Neil Vatcher having to catch the attention of the guy in the box to announce the winners!

Just now, eric i said:

Keep Palin and TJ and bring back Jake Allen.

Could live with that Eric, wonder if Allen on 7.72, Ellis on 7.66 ... for sure Ellis will improve on that but Allen rides Scunny better..... Anyway the season isn't over & I started it, just a bit of "what if" fun.

I really hope we don't go down the route of a home track specialist who can't beat heat leaders, I will say no names but he scored poorly tonight.

He just seems to put more effort in when riding for Sheffield imo

Adam will tell you himself, he uses the same bikes for Scunny as he does for Sheffield.

In fairness, Adam was mainly brought in for away performances - however, the Scunthorpe track has been prepared very inconsistantley all season - and Adam's struggled to learn Scunny as his home track due to that and the fact that everyone can ride Scunny! I'd personally love to have Adam back next season if the rules allow

Although Adam could well be back at Poole where he was originally intended to be - especially as Pirates will be looking for a replacement for Rory Schlein!!?

Although if he's still at Sheffield it might work for him, Sheffield Thursday, Scunny Friday.
