Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020

Sorry 'Skunny' thread but when/why did assessed averages for new foreign riders get reduced?  I'm sure Nicki/Bjarne Pedersen and Kenneth Bjerre can in on 9 or at least 8 assessed so they had to have a certain pedigree to be given a chance.  It got reduced to 7 when the Diamonds went for Rune Knudsen which obviously didn't pay off but it's now 4???  If you're in the game of collecting rider assets you'd probably always go for a new foreigner on a 4.

Whack it back up to at least 7 and, importantly, don't let their average ever fall below the assessed level.

Just to bring it back to 'Skunny' they'd not be under the points limit if Aarnio and Piper had assessed 7 averages

That’s stupid, you may as well say they pay for his bacon sandwich and tins of red bull !

Now back to the Skunny thread.

No it isn't. It is basic economics. If the cost of riding goes up (be it flights, tuning, adverse exchange rate movements) the rider will seek to cover the extra costs by seeking more money from his club.

Importing foreigners certainly worked at Newport for the first few years at least , we had Iversen, Henriksson, Watson , even Korneliussen could be classed as a success story. But in years to follow we also ended up with Vedel, Kujawa, Mroz etc so that balanced it out.

but agree with Najjer that now is the time to back the Brits.

I had high hopes of the original line up, but now fear we are pretty weak. This season looks like it will be full of ups and downs and to cap it all no long weekend at Somerset and Cardiff this year either. I don't think it will be a case of which teams stay injury free, but probably a case of which teams can stay intact throughout the season with all the Covid chaos affecting riders travelling. We are fortunate for any kind of league racing ,but personally whoever comes out top ,it will feel like a hollow victory.

Easy to spot the fans already rummaging around the kitchen drawer for the wooden spoon to use at the end of season do......;)

I think there is a good chance they will avoid wooden spoon. Newcastle look worse, unsure about Redcar's replacements. Also Plymouth have a look of uncertainty about them. Don't know too much about the bottom four, and unlikely that the top two will score their starting averages.

I will settle for some good racing.

Thats something you are all but guaranteed at Scunny and something that could be argued is the biggest success of all :t:

I think theres more than just good chance Scunny will cope at home. There are EWR "specialists" in that 1-7 without question. But that said they wont go undefeated at home and will certaintly take some 30+pt defeats on the road. So it does equate to a bottom four finish on paper.

I agree there are many unknowns about this truncated 2021 season ? How quickly will UK based riders overcome a "18 month" recess to their racing ? We can say oh so and so will pick up where they left off ? But will they. 18 months is a long time out; though granted its the same for all.

However if in normal times say a rider was coming back into competitive racing after 18 months on the sidelines I would certainly be a tad concerned at first ?and its a fair bet a fair number of them will have those concerns as the tapes go up !

A good race track and close racing is one thing...  as a home fan, losing at home on a regular basis is another, its demoralising... sadly that all I see happening with our proposed line up   There's not much in this Scorpions line up that excites me, too many journeymen, Palin aside, where's the youth?  There's a couple of riders in there that bore the pants off you...  why no Ryan Kinsley?  Sorry to seem despondent and negative...  but after enduring the year we have, I need something to ignite some interest, so far there hasn't been any. I fear my involvement in the sport is coming to an end.

As Redcar do not pay Andersen’s flights , it does not need to be justified.

Unless it's a sponsor, the DMU agreement states the flights are paid by the hiring club especially for U19/21and country championships rounds and finals.

Think you are a bit out of touch Dave. I know Newcastle paid for flights for certain Dane’s in the past but that was their choice in their negotiation with said riders, no DMU agreement in place since 2017.

This is why the riders get the cheapest flights possible and fly into Heathrow or Stanstead instead of Newcastle, etc ( when riding for northern clubs ) as it’s at their expense.

But each club does its own thing ,hence why certain clubs pay way higher than others.

On his last visit with Sheffield he scored 8 pts at the EWR

From a reserve position but from 7 rides. From updates though, mostly in the mix

When we ran on a Sunday previously, we found running at 3pm on a warm day, the track dried out too quickly & got dusty. Rob now does the track & gets plenty of water down & rarely grades during a meeting. In 2019, we ran a few Sunday meetings starting at 5pm, 6pm & 6.30pm to, also, allow supporters to return home at reasonable times. Sorry no definitive times but can only give information based on past experiences. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Assume there will not be too late a start due to the second meeting afterwards. Hopefully, the club may release some information soon. After all, fans travelling from Scotland, or other non local areas, may especially want to know.

Edinburgh assuming 5pm start but a 3pm start would be much better to get back north at a reasonable time.  Certainly supporters' bus has had to leave before end of meeting due to drivers hours on occasion when meeting has dragged on or been a double header.

Absolutely gutted if Jake goes to Redcar but THJ has eluded to this fact & even though it is not a direct announcement, he is normally one "in the know" & has eluded to this on the Redcar forum.

Pleased for Jake, really, & with the travel situations for some riders riding in Europe, I can see him supplementing his wages with guest appearances in the Championship & Premiership.
