norbold
15/06 confirmed - Filled in programme 20/04 - Date confirmed - Partly filled in programme which is hard to decipher. Also some of the heat results are not filled in at all and the score chart at the end is not filled in, so I can't work out who won, though looking at the heats that are filled in, it looks likely that the winning pair was either P. Robinson and M Flack or G Bason and E Irons.
Guest
It's interesting to see George Bason involved in many 1946-1947 era Rye House meetings. He had a long career in speedway - starting at Oxford in 1938-39. His speedway career lasted until the late 1960s-early 1970s when he was a member of the Victor Boston speedway group in Northern France. Among British tracks Bason rode for post-war were West Ham, Wembley, Wimbledon, Southampton, Liverpool, Swindon and California-in-England. daveallan81
If I'm correct, the Midlands v South Cup qualifying rounds were split into two groups. The Southern group (Eastbourne, Exeter, Plymouth & Southampton) seems to be in order. The Midlands group (Cradley Heath, Hanley, Tamworth & Wombwell) however seems to be missing a fixture, namely Cradley v Wombwell. The dates I have for Heathens Cubs(!) are: 04/07 at Wombwell 04/08 v Tamworth 04/08 at Tamworth 28/08 at Hanley 29/10 v Hanley (staged at Tamworth) The final was staged 05/11 so I'm surmising that following the 29/10 fixture the Wombwell match became a dead rubber and wasn't run. But was there any attempt to run it beforehand as I have no entry for a postponed fixture? Edited September 21, 2019 by daveallan81

The Cradley Hearth v Wombwell match in the Midlands v South Cup never appeared in the fixture list and as late as 13th September it was noted in the Cradley Heath programme as 'still to be arranged'. Cradley Heath ran out of dates, with the first home fixture not having been staged until 21st June and the last two 'home' meetings being held at Birmingham and Hanley.

Maybe the match on 29 October was Cradley v. Hanley but run at Tamworth? What else could it be? I presume there must have been a match on that date for Stenner's to have a score? As I noted in the original post - 29/10 (Cubs NOT Heathens!) v Hanley (staged at Tamworth)

I've just spotted another strange 'un - 18th June Tamworth 49 - 35 Wombwell appears to have been staged over 14 heats whereas the rest are over 16. Any further info on that one? I meant to say Cradley Heath rode their last two homes at Birmingham and Tamworth (not Hanley). The Tamworth v Wombwell match was raced over 14 heats, apparently in error, as it should have complied with the tournament format of 16 heats. Speedway World confirmed it was a 14 heat match.
