The racing was competitive, a big crowd for once from the Bears and turning up for a change, but marred by the horrible accident to Michael and Nathan. I agree, and I privately praised both Roy and Dalbers, for their informed chat which felt like it halfed the actual 1 hour plus delay due to the accident and lack of medical facility for a short while. The fact that we won on the night was incidental, but more meetings need to be like this but without the crash. 'Two passes", yea right. You really are brain washed Dave. I was with two longstanding diamonds fans and two fellow comets supporters and even they said it was a poor meeting from a racing point of view. Racing is where competitors continually overtake each other, not when a rider makes a mistake, heads for the fence and the rider behind is able to get infront when he never looked comfortable enough to attempt the pass in the first place. I've seen decent meetings at Brough this season, this was not one of them.

The match itself was a bit of a bore fest, ( never mind the inevitable delay ) only two genuine overtakes , whoever led from turn two won but the best team won on the night with S.Worrell back to his best and Østergaard looking like the rider he once was.Solid back up all round. Good that the crowd were kept informed by the centre green announcers. Wright and Riss did what was expected, Greaves and Palm Toft were doing ok and Andersen surprised me with a battling performance although surprised to see him in heat 15. Stewart looked like he wanted to be back home. Some strange referring , didn't understand why he stopped the race when Andersen touched Bjerre and put himself to the back of the field . He could have simply disqualified him after the race as the result would not have been effected . No such offence as " moving another rider off his line"! His claim that the tapes were faulty was a joke. He let a few flyers go ,from both sides. Going to be an interesting cup final if the Bears can find a good pair of replacements and with Ostergaard being the key man for the Diamonds. Regulation 15.5.1 Where a heat is stopped, the Referee shall disqualify the rider, who in their opinion is the primary cause of the stoppage, has indulged in foul, unfair, dangerous or reckless conduct that’s jeopardised the fair chance of an opponent. In certain circumstances, that may include disqualification from the rest of the Meeting, with no facility allowed in a team meeting. The referee obviously thought that Bjerre's chance of possibly catching and passing Wright was nullified by Andersen.

Thank you Leander, Yes, I'm aware of that rule but my point was he didn't have to stop the race at all and then the announcement quoted the disqualification was for taking his line ? If it had said unfair riding no more would have been said. I very much doubt that Bjerre was ever going to catch Wright in that race, he was already well ahead and crossing the start line.

So if you are attending the cup meetings I hope your not going to be so negative with the comment about only 2 passes.. it was a good meeting even though there was nothing to play for as Redcar have ( rightly so qualified for the play offs ) & the diamonds have had a tough season,,, but it takes me back to when we had Lewis Kerr Chris Schramm Andrew tully Anton rosen ludde robbo Richie worrall & Christian Henry all representing the side that season & had a similar sort of league campaign but still won a cup so it would be great to do it in our 90th year

I said it was not a good spectacle, it wasn't , plain and simple. I've been to Belle Vue, Redcar , and many other tracks where it wasn't a great meeting. We even had poor meetings at Workington. They happen, it's speedway!

It was a decent meeting and a good atmosphere because of the larger than normal attendance of the Redcar fans who created some banter. I agree you used to have plenty of poor meetings at Worky, 2

slyfox
Ben Duffill quoted in the Teesside Gazettte today. Broc Nichol in to replace Nathan Greaves for both play off meetings against Leicester (the Bates Family are being very generous loaning us their Sheffield asset) Plus 3 quality No 1's offered their services to replace MPT. Ben Thinks we are making a positive out of a negative following the horrific crash at Newcastle. Just need a reasonable 2 pointer to replace Tom Woolley to make the 7 up. DON'T WRITE US OFF YET LEICESTER...... Edited September 18, 2019 by slyfox
