Islander15
Potters have sold their stadium and will see out this season on Saturday but then that’s it. Stoke may have got their fair share of criticism but it’s still a sad day to lose a British Speedway club.
acef
Another one bites the dust. Bit by bit. Just a matter of time.
cityrebel
I'm glad i went this season. I thought the old place looked quite decent for a change.
MattJ81
That's a real shame. Obviously have some vivid memories of our time there in 96 along with fainter ones from previous trips to watch the Potters (including I think with a very young Jason Crump in opposition). Visited for the NL fours recently and enjoyed the evening, it has its charms the old place - I'm still a sucker for a big grass bank to watch speedway on Thoughts with the Potters fans
HGould
That implies it has been sold for development and not to a Stock Car Promoter as all seems very final? Sad but i fear won't be the last this winter.

Gunner85
Gutted for the Stoke supporters... Personally, I gave up on Stoke a long time ago.... complete dissatisfaction with the promoters
Mimmo
Bloody hell, not another one. Coventry, Workington, Buxton, Stoke and Peterborough in the future, what on earth is happening. I feel so sorry for everyone connected with all of these clubs.

moxey63
Looks as if we'll be having the most important Promoters' congress since the last one.

Years and years of promoters ignoring the feedback from disenfranchised and disillusioned fans is 'happening' so British Speedway continues to reap what it has sowed.. Be interesting to see if those left finally change a wholly unfit for purpose operating model before any more tracks close...? Somehow I doubt it as surely they would have done so over the last decade or so, when it was clear year on year it wasn't working...
big lad
I note it’s the owners of the place that have sold it ,not the speedway promotion. sad day

Helmet colour changes will be a priority I would imagine.. And also what biscuits will be available to have with their tea and coffee..

What would you suggest, you have the best track there's ever been in this country and still it has pathetic crowds?
screm
Sad times especially for the Stoke fans, but giving the standing of speedway these days its probably no surprise.

moxey63
Belle Vue's Hyde Road was bulldozed for car auctions. Sometimes, outside forces can influence things. Perhaps Stoke's closure isn't entirely the sport's fault. But it shows again, you can follow a team loyally for decades and this happens. Speedway is so cruel and its existence hangs by a thread. Sort it out, promoters. Edited September 11, 2019 by moxey63

Run it like a proper team sport with credibility? Run it to a budget that makes it sustainable for you rather than reflecting the costs your employees stump up? (Often to assist funding their own individual aspirations) Run it on nights when your customers tell you they can get there, not when your employees tell you they can get there.? Stop sharing employees who see you as the lowest paying employer out of the three they have..? Set an admission fee reflective of what you offer to the public, not one which needs to try and cover ridiculous salary levels which are far in excess of what a sport with such a poor following can ever hope to maintain.. ? A few starters for ten... Edited September 10, 2019 by mikebv 12

I agree with that but it would mean reverting to one league and initially a lower standard of rider, fine by me but every time anyone suggests it on here they get shouted down. 1
