Recommended Posts

Before the Season finale, I'd just like to say a massive Thank you to Rob, the promotion, the riders, all track/cafe/bar staff and the fans of the Scorpions for making this season a decent year! Things not gone to plan, but at least we know we're running.. so Thanks Rob and co for great racing, on a great track for another season

Redcar owe you one, after you took advantage of an understrength Bears side in July.

As Scunny have priority over Friday nights, we gave a Friday night up to come and race at your place.. Why should we have cancelled it?? Get over it and stop moaning about it

Was the track so great this year?  Myself, other fans and some of the riders themselves think the track has not been up to previous year's standard. Rob needs to listen to what his riders want, rather than what track conditions he wants to produce.

It's listening to what the riders want that has lead to most tracks becoming boring and processional.

I was just joking.

We have no animosity with Scunthorpe.

We don't have a team of gaters, but rather a team of racers that like to ride the fence. On many occasions this season we have not had an outside line. That is where we have missed a trick . Perhaps the track curator should go to the after meeting riders get together and listen to what his team riders think of the track.

Are you sure that he doesn't or that messages aren't passed on from management and above? Most riders like an easy to ride track and don't give a hoot about what things look like from the other side of the fence.

I go to the club after the meeting & it was the meeting after the heroics of Ayres at the British Final when some of the riders passed comment that if there was a bit more dirt, they could attack it more. As I walked round the track later, Rob was on track in the tractor & I shouted out that the riders wanted a bit more dirt(jokingly). He shouted back saying something like "I sort the track so it's up to them to race on it". Probably a joking, maybe sarcastic reply, which was laughed off by us. The next meeting, there seemed to be a bit more dirt which caught the riders out, chasing new setups, which they also commented on after this meeting.

I have said this before on previous threads that it seems a hard job to get the right weather, the right moisture & the right amount on to a track to make it the same or similar every week/fortnight. Some you win, some you lose.

What the hell did Rob get the blade out for and ruin a track that was perfectly acceptable to the Scorpions? Managed to gift the Bears a point making the track slick with only an inside line and follow the leader round.

Thanks Rob.

Yeah we liked the track at Glasgow, but the Tigers didn't.:D Our promotor is too busy ripping the track up and taking air fence down for next day stockcars to attend to after meeting event.

Yeah on reflection it was a surreal decision. Scorpions ride like the away side after that!

More so after we had just got a 4-2 then 2 x 5-1's. Rob probably thought meeting was won so thought about payments to riders. :nono: ;)

Dave Peet more annoyed about gifting Redcar a point especially as they were trying to pull a fast one using Douglas for Toft. Quite a few phone calls were made before the meeting.

Good meeting, and job done by Scorpions in winning it.  Nice to see Stefan Nielsen have a good meeting – his confidence has taken a battering recently, but at least he can now go into the winter on the back of ‘a good one’.

Those last four races meant nothing, really.  It’s not that the lads stopped trying, the track just shifted as it’s likely to do during an afternoon meeting. I think the track grade was an attempt to stop that happening, but it was already too far on its way.  It showed why Friday meetings at 7.30pm are the preferred option.

It's also cost Scorpions nothing, since the only team we can really finish on level points with is Berwick.  If they fail to take a point from their last two meetings, that would mean two away defeats by 7 or more, in which case we go back above them on race points difference.  So, no damage done – it just gave Redcar an extra point.  It also gave their lively group of fans something to cheer about.

There was three points up for grabs for Scorpions yesterday and we got all three of those points.  On this occasion, all the hard work was done in the first eleven races.  Some fine racing, including in Heat 3 as Ben and Stefan worked their way from behind to change a 1-5 to a 5-1, a bit more Auty v Douglas controversy (they’re still friends off track), Josh grabbing second place in Heat 10 on the line despite being down on power, and what turned out to be a vital third place for Ryan Kinsley after a race-long battle with Kasper Andersen in Heat 11 (without that, Bears three 5-1s would have taken it to a last-heat decider).

Good final meeting of the season, and plenty of interesting titbits in the clubhouse after the meeting, with the Scorpions plus Dave Peet and Rob Godfrey all giving their thoughts.

Wake me up when it’s March 2020 and it’s Josh’s testimonial!

Just so I understand you correctly, was that a compliment to Redcar's travelling support or a dig at them actually creating a bit of atmosphere?
