Nice to see Stefan Nielsen have a good meeting – his confidence has taken a battering recently, but at least he can now go into the winter on the back of ‘a good one’. Those last four races meant nothing, really. It’s not that the lads stopped trying, the track just shifted as it’s likely to do during an afternoon meeting. I think the track grade was an attempt to stop that happening, but it was already too far on its way. It showed why Friday meetings at 7.30pm are the preferred option. It's also cost Scorpions nothing, since the only team we can really finish on level points with is Berwick. If they fail to take a point from their last two meetings, that would mean two away defeats by 7 or more, in which case we go back above them on race points difference. So, no damage done – it just gave Redcar an extra point. It also gave their lively group of fans something to cheer about. There was three points up for grabs for Scorpions yesterday and we got all three of those points. On this occasion, all the hard work was done in the first eleven races. Some fine racing, including in Heat 3 as Ben and Stefan worked their way from behind to change a 1-5 to a 5-1, a bit more Auty v Douglas controversy (they’re still friends off track), Josh grabbing second place in Heat 10 on the line despite being down on power, and what turned out to be a vital third place for Ryan Kinsley after a race-long battle with Kasper Andersen in Heat 11 (without that, Bears three 5-1s would have taken it to a last-heat decider). Good final meeting of the season, and plenty of interesting titbits in the clubhouse after the meeting, with the Scorpions plus Dave Peet and Rob Godfrey all giving their thoughts. Wake me up when it’s March 2020 and it’s Josh’s testimonial! Good to tell you are Scorpions PR man. Last races meant nothing? Well tell that to a stand full of supporters around me , who were incensed that the track had not been graded but, actually bladed and outside line totally removed, robbing us of actual racing instead of follow the leader hugging the inside.

As far as I'm aware Redcars' management already knew that they couldn't switch the guest facility from Wright to Toft and had to use r/r for Toft . But they did try because of Toft's late withdrawal hence the number of calls made.

martinmauger
Enjoyed yesterday (Scunny v Bears) not our team(s) so not fussed who wins we (3) just enjoy speedway. Arrived late, 4:50-ish pm, seemed to be a big crowd, had to park far end of car park in between the 'usual' rows of cars, as did a few, not visited that area for a long time, anyone have any idea how many, just out of interest.... Fortythirtyeight
Having travelled the 3 hours to watch this meeting I was thoroughly entertained. Talk about a match of two halfs! Meeting all but won by the Scorpions by heat 10 having out ridden the opposition some of whom just didn't know where to put themselves. Out come the tractors and back come the Bears. Not seen a finish like that by an away team for quite a few years so they deserved their consulation point. The match had everything, dubious decisions, hand bags after races and good racing. Travelling support were very vocal , if a little course at times, which created a good atmosphere, although the speaker system wasnt very good ( intermittent ). Scorpions were solid enough but Auty wasn't his normal self. Riss and Douglas were very good and kept the Bears in it till the rest woke up. Godfrey stated his intentions to run in 2020 which is most unlike him but there's time for him to change his mind several times as he tends to do before running again. Must say the Ice cream was the best I've tasted at any track so the return trip wasn't too bad.
