Top riders must be earning fortunes now the Polish TV money has gone through the ceiling. Getting rough £1500 in the UK isn't on a par but there are not many jobs where you can earn that much in one evening. Plus the rider would have sponsorships over here to. When Ward was riding he would have done about 35 to 40 meetings. Edited September 6, 2019 by Mark

I remember going from Hyde road to Kirky lane, now we are at the NSS the crappy racing was at Kirky lane, when we were at the dog track we tried to convince ourselves the racing was better due to the tighter track and riders having to have more technical ability, we were kidding ourselves, the best racing by far was at Hyde road and now the NSS, absolutely no comparison, after all the clue is in the name, speedway. Every meeting at Hyde road was not a great meeting it produced good and poor meetings and the dog track had some excellent as well as poor meetings just as the NSS is not great every meeting Yes there are some really good heats but plenty are follow the leader from the gate

Both of the latter more often than not produce(d) good entertaining meetings with fast, close racing, with genuine passing after bends 1 and 2. The dog track more often than not produced slower, spread out, racing with much less passing after bends 1 and 2 and a significant percentage of that passing was due to rider mistakes rather than riders being able to use multiple racing lines. bellevueace
When i made my original comment about teams preferring to come to the NSS rather than Wolves that was based on my belief Wolves are more formidable round their own patch than we are, no mention about the tracks at all, I think Biowulf became defensive hence his comments. No track ever has produced exceptional racing every meeting that's just impossible, but given the option I would take aHyde Road or NSS over Kirky Lane any day, Aces 51 sums it up perfectly

I’m not being critical of Wolves as CVS runs a good stadium and credit where’s its due BUT Monmore is really a trick track and stadium good as it is...is not as good as NSS.

However that’s taking nothing away from the fact that Monmore has produced some stunning races over the years.

I've seen many a good meeting at Monmore Steve I don't go with this big tracks are better than smaller tracks thing, each track has its own characteristics which means riders have to adapt different skills, that's why it was always said foreign riders need to ride in the UK in order to develop. As Ivan Mauger once said every track is there to be ridden. Wolves are a very well run club and I think can go all the way in the play offs, that was my original point nothing to do with tracks at all, that wasn't brought up by me. Good luck in the play offs, I wouldn't mind seeing you go all the way.
