BREAKING NEWS

We can confirm that the Shielfield Park circuit will be adapted before the tapes go up in 2020!

Co-owner Jamie Courtney has announced at tonight’s Christmas party that work will begin to widen the entrances & exits to the corners and widen the straights in the new year!

We will bring you the full story over the weekend but this is a huge step forward for the club as we look forward to enjoying the fastest Speedway in the country with lots more possibilities for great racing.

That is great news for the fans.Im sure it will make a huge difference to the quality of the entertainment.Well done to the Promotion.

Excellent news. Well done to all involved in taking that step.

Credit to the promotion for this change and good to see the speedway and football clubs working together. Hopefully this will give the riders new lines and a chance at over taking, hopefully  the actual track prep will change to as it seems over the last few seasons all the dirt is pilled up on the outside right from Ht1 and if that doesn't change you can have any track shape you like but alas the actual racing will see little change.

There always one negative comment and usually from  you. Each year this promotion have made improvements on this site at least they are trying to improve the fans experience on race nights. Look back and see what the previous strong teams on paper have done, not always what was ecpected of them.. We have still got speedway in Berwick ,on a positive note if you attend you will see the other teams racing in Berwick anyway.

Interesting to see quite how they are going to do this. It is going to be hugely expensive if they are going outwards, but the only other option is to take up part of the football pitch which, whilst being the obvious solution, I am amazed that Berwick Rangers are allowing. If that is the case. Still it needs it as entertainment has been dire in recent years. (drag race to the 1st bend springs to mind).

The decision was taking after talks with Berwick Rangers, looks like there is 1m coming off each straight.

As a self-confessed 'track anorak' (there is no known cure) it began when Hull altered the Boulevard track Winter 1977 at Ivan's insistance prior to his arrival, I also visited Craven Park regularly in early 1995 to witness the track being constructed; where does the time go.   I'm interested to see exactly the Berwick management achieve the alterations to the Shielfield Park circuit and it can only make the racing better and good news for Bandits & away fans and all riders....

So. Does anybody know if the width of the football pitch has been reduced this season. i.e. Will they be able to widen the track on the inside of the straights without impacting on the current pitch dimensions. Most semi professional and professional leagues have a minimum and maximum allowed pitch size, but more importantly, they do not allow the pitch size to be altered during the football season.

I’m sure I got told the lines were closer in but even if they wasn’t, there is a gap between the touchline and start of track anyways I think, I know for sure that Berwick’s pitch was one of the biggest in Scottish football so there was some room to make changes.
