Nodlew
The Birmingham Daily Gazette of 13 August 1951 stated that the challenge match between Long Eaton and Cradley Heath was cancelled due to the heavy rain. It went on to say that Torrential rain flooded Swindon’s track causing the postponement of the Third Division match against Wolverhampton. When I am back home next week, I will check my Long Eaton programmes for before and after the 11th to confirm this date. The speedway meeting at Bristol was reported to have taken place when the weather cleared up after pouring rain all day had saturated the track. At Harringay, the racing was described as reasonably good in the rain soaked conditions. The Leicester meeting was described as good, considering the condition of the track. West Ham's meeting took place following torrential rain an hour or so before the match. The meeting at Southampton took place on a wet track. The Plymouth meeting took place under atrocious conditions according to reports. It seems highly likely that the meeting at Aldershot started in acceptable conditions but then succumbed to the rain, which appears to have been widespread across the country. 26/04 Long Eaton v Aldershot Juniors 31-53 - CONFIRM DATE POSSIBLY 26/05? 26th April, 31-53 (Speedway News, Speedway Gazette)26/05 Norwich v Glasgow (Nat. Suffice to say about him that in more than one outside speedway he was one of the area's characters. He was around the speedway scene for some years, mainly in second-half races at various tracks, although in 1954 he did for a while hold down a team place with Eastbourne in the old Southern Area League. Johnnie also came to prominence in the mid-1950s as a stock car driver, racing mainly at West Ham. As a driver his track name was the 'Cisco Kid.
