Edinburgh v Newcastle

Recommended Posts

Don't reckon 14 points will be enough but its a good lead to defend.

For the monarchs Wells and Heeps done well enough but Wells still not hitting form and heeps terrible gating making it hard for him.  Great to see Picko back and flying around the track like he was never away.  The Swedes had their moments but should have scored more.  And finally a meeting both our reserves scored well shocked at Lawsons 6+2 and an impressive Cole with 3+2.

Diamonds just to many passengers with Garcia and Philips very poor.   Worrall and weather's done what expected and clegg scoring very well.

Very poor crowd with some strung out races but also some decent passes.   A wins a win tho so on we go.

Enjoyable night's racing on a well prepared track - standout heat 11 with Heeps going round both Worrall & Clegg for the win. Great to see Josh back and William getting in the mix and picking up some good points. Newcastle hampered by their guest not going well, but well served by their main 4. Not sure if 14 is going to be enough as Monarchs have been just getting to the mid-30s in most of their away matches.

For a cup semi-final against Newcastle the crowd did not look particularly good, which must be a worry for the promotion.

Absolutely shocking management decision by giving Garcia 5 rides (he pulled up at the back in 4!) and only point was in heat 1 when Palovaara nearly hit the fence and let him through, surely Clegg had to take 7 rides!!

Could come back to haunt Edinburgh bad management

14 points win in the end probably should’ve been more with a few dodgy rides from the swedes and Wells having a bad heat 13.

will it be enough not entirely convinced it will be.

Edinburgh probly wanted a bigger cushion and Newcastle a smaller one, not saying the Diamonds can't turn it round, but we can't afford any slackers on Sunday.

Perhaps you should be saying "should have been less with a few dodgy refereeing decisions"?

Hope Phillips has a sick note then.

What decisions would they be.

Danny Phillips excluded for being nowhere near Connor Coles bend 3/4 heat 4 (3-3 became 4-2).

Max Clegg, identical start to Ricky Wells (heat 1 which wasn't pulled back) in heat 12 when Willie Lawson fell bend 1/2 totally untouched, but Max "moved" (according to Darren H), so re-run (3-3 became 5-1).

Just my opinion, of course, but even some Edinburgh fans near us (on the grassy knoll as I like to call it on bend 3) questioned the heat 4 decision.

He hit Coles front wheel was right in line with it.

Clegg moved at the start along with the first bend bunching that caused Lawson to come off.

Was standing at top of terracing next to hospitality suite on bend 4 & had perfect view, and Phillips definitely swiped Coles front wheel when he dived inside.

Not in a position to have a close view of what happened re Lawson's fall & whether Clegg moved at start, but the elevated ref's box does provide better sight lines of the circuit.

I reckoned we needed at least a 20 point lead to stand a chance of  reaching the final, given our poor away performances and Heeps failing to record a win/paid win in the previous Shield match at Brough.

The bonus of having Clegg returning to reserve also strengthens the Diamonds, given he will inevitably replace Phillips in at least one of his programmed rides.

Utter garbage. Danny was past him going into bend 3. clear daylight between Danny and Connor. It was identical to the move Pickering did on Matty in heat 3. Only difference was Matty wasn't out of shape on every corner, Unlike Coles.

As for being a well prepared track, it's rubbish compared to what it used to be like when "Doc" Bridgett did it. Needs a big blade to take out all the 'hills' that are putting so many riders out of shape on the corners.

Big difference one made a clean pass the other collected his front wheel. Hence why Coles couldn’t turn and had no choice to go into the fence.

Hills? Track was fine last night maybe a tad slicker than normal imo.

I was in Hospitality looking right down on them entering the 3rd bend. Phillips wiped him out, nothing intentional just went into corner with to much speed.

I was also on centre green for heat 12 and was videoing the heat in question. Video clearly shows Clegg moving before tapes went up. If I knew how to post a video on here I would.

A thoroughly enjoyable meeting though, and I can not recommend the hospitality at Armadale enough. Some fantastic racing and hopefully William Lawson can take some confidence from last nights performance.

Is going to be a very tight 2nd leg I think, with it possibly going to a last heat decider to see who makes the final. Wish I was going but unfortunately I didn’t win the Monarchs Trust big summer raffle last night (A huge well done to all for the amount raised for the club) so my wallet says I can’t.

Where were you viewing the race? You either did not have a clear view of Phillip's making contact with Coles front wheel or you suffer from Geordie hallucinations.

The only garbage on here is the tripe your spouting , re the incident and your "expert" analysis of the track.

You're not George English's love child btw?:P, as he was predictably also girning about the ref, as he has done on several visits to the Dale, when his team fail to deliver.

av heard that the Edinburgh track has more 'bumps' than Craig Cook, (Mr. Maximum).

Home straight amongst a bunch of Edinburgh supporters more than one of which put Fx against Coles in there program before the ref made his decision.
