Sheffield v Scunny 02/06/19

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't surprise me if changes weren't too far away for the Sheffield team.

Kasper Andersen seems to be having a real tough time of it of late.

Ty Proctor seems to ride better against us rather than for us.

Not sure on who can come in though. . . .

Wasn't in attendance but still loving Ayres Force One proving he can still do a very good job at higher levels and providing pure entertainment as ever.

Well, that was a funny one - instead of saying Tigers were lucky, I'd say it was a bloody good effort after being 7 down with 3 heats to go, and I'd be pretty annoyed if I was a Scunthorpe fan to have lost from that position.  Danny has ridden "real" number one races in the latter stages of the last couple of home meetings to get us the wins.

I agree, Kasper is struggling badly, but it would seem pretty low to drop him just now, when he's just had the boot from King's Lynn as well. Drew has, in Marathon runners' parlance, hit the wall a little bit and also looked down on power yesterday, he desperately needs a spell at reserve to get his confidence back. But on the plus side, Broc Nicol is looking much better in the last two home meetings.

Well that was a meeting we through away as with the guests available, I thought we were stronger than Sheffield & would win convincingly but we could not pull away as our fans would have expected more from Auty(possibly struggling with engines after having to have them sorted a few weeks back) but probably, & have, the Sheffield fans expecting more from their riders. We through away points in heat 2 when the track possibly greasy, Bowtell went into the airbag at bend 3 when 3rd of 3 riders & couldn't free himself(although his mechanic struggled to restart his bike returning to the pits). Ayres & Auty did well to pass Kemp in heat 5. Then towards the end of the meeting, I thought we still had the riders available to pull us through. First chance Sheffield got to use the TS in heat 12 was used to good effect as even though Douglas rode a good 1st bend to part block King on the outside he then found the speed to pass Proctor out of bend 2 to lead & stay there.  Heat 13 Kurtz had a cracking gate for the Tigers to be on a 5-1 with Auty in 3rd who seemed to stop Allen's run into bend 1 lap 2 from which he never recovered then probably his engine was going as he finished the race. Heat 14 we exited bend 2 on the 1st lap on a 5-1 then Bowtell clipped the fence forcing a stoppage. Sods law then came in to it as even though Nielsen gated, Nicol produced a lovely outside move to lead & not look back. King & Kurtz were the obvious choices for Sheffield in heat 15 & I thought we would go with Allen & Douglas. Looking into the pits there seemed to be a lot of conversations between riders & with Auty not up to speed & Allen's obvious engine problem now evident then Douglas & Ayres were the obvious 2 & I still thought, at worst, we would get a 3-3 but, again, Kurtz did a cracking job. Although very disappointed not to get a win, there was a bit more entertainment from the racing I have seen for a while at Sheffield.

On a side note, Rob Godfrey must have been very disappointed with the result as he normally passes me on the M18 or M180 but last night he passed me on the A630.

Apparently Danny was kicking off in the pits afterwards.

I'm not saying I don't believe it happened at some point, but I went to the pit area about 5 minutes after the meeting finished and Danny was happily having a long chat/photos with the webmaster (and his wife/little boy) of this very forum!

While i do not profess to be a personal friend of Dannys but i do know people that are and  it would seem very out of character if this was true. So going off some of the posters previous posts and what i know of Danny along with the info off Tigerblade i am going to say its NOT true .

I can understand his frustration when his team mates aren't putting ,more effort in.He shouldn't have to be having a TS ride at home  and then HAVE to win heat 15 to win the meeting every week.Occasionally yes every week no.Its suppose to be a team sport and the rest are letting him down.I can see changes soon as our promotors will not be wanting another short season.

Just realised, I obviously mean after the meeting FINISHED!  Like I say, I've no idea if it happened or not, but he'd calmed down pretty quick if so.

Star of the show for my money was Todd Kurtz. I've gone on record previously as saying he's a "slow burner" and will finish up in a year or two with an 8 point average.

To say he hasn't been near Owlerton this season until Sunday, he rode with considerable skill and maturity. I said in the winter that Sheffield were mugs to let him go and, having seen how some of the Tigers' "rising stars" performed on Sunday, I see no reason to change my opinion on that. The trouble is, having had a good look at the track, Todd will probably come back on 30th June with Somerset and punish us.

In terms of the general team performance, the rider with least excuse for such a poor showing is Ty Proctor. For an alleged heat leader, three third places and a solitary win is not acceptable and unless he pulls his socks up I can well see him being the first out of the door by July. Kasper's confidence looks to have been blown, whilst Zaine's performances alternate between brilliant and abysmal. Meanwhile Broc reserves all his best performances for the away matches (which is no bad thing). All-in-all, we've had a run of lucky escapes in the last three home matches but on present showing I fear we will be on the losing end when the stronger teams start arriving (starting next Sunday with Leicester).

........ but Kemp escapes criticism! You knew when you signed him that you were getting the best 2 pointer available but also knew that he had over a 4.75 average from 7 meetings last year for Ipswich & after 1 away meeting would move into the main body.

We, also, had a no1 & ex Sheffield rider only scoring 4 points

Why wouldn't Kemp escape criticism? If there is any blame to be levied its against the promotion who knew his average would rise but failed to build a team to keep him in the reserve berths and utilise the treat rather than nullify it in the main team. Kemp is also still learning his way in the sport and competing in his first full season at Champ level.

Auty has wasted his chances and career. He was a very hot talent at the same age as Drew and has developed into an inconsistent heat leader that as become reliant on Scunthorpe keeping him employed as many others would / have see through him. If Kemp doesn't eclipse Auty's achievements it will only be because the sport no longer exists.
