Are the FIM really in control of speedway worldwide or are the Polish Authorities exempt?

Am I the only person who remembers when we had the majority of top riders in the British League and people were saying "why should BSI be allowed to basically hijack Saturday nights... if it wasn't for league racing there would be no riders to race in the GP,  and yet they steal the riders away in precedence to the leagues"...? now people are saying the Polish league should be told they are not allowed to run on the Friday as well as the Saturday...?

ZMARZKIK won and he didn't practice... but we weren't talking about practice as such but the time trials to allow riders to chose their starting number.

The qualifying time trials are in essence “practice”. It gives riders a chance to “guage” the track and, determine if their set ups are right for the track.

That’s not the way the current world champion sees it. He clearly stated tonight that he missed out through not being able to practice/qualify yesterday.

The way I saw it was, he wants to ride in Poland on a Friday night to get the money and because he doesn't want to practice then no one should be allowed to.

However last nights winner didn't practice

Zmarzlik was the only one of the ones who didn't practice/qualify to get to the final, apart from a mediocre performance from Woffinden the others were pretty dire.As said in an earlier post the Polish league pays the riders a lot more compared to the GP but many of their sponsors back them on the back of GP coverage, whch this season is practice/qualifying on tv.

If that's the case its up to the riders to say they are going to the practice and not ride in the league match, I cant imagine the PZM will ban a potential Polish world champion if he insists on going to the practice.

or does the amount they earn on a Friday night mean they are willing to take the risk?

I find the son a poor substitute for the  world team cup .with teams in it with no chance of getting to the final no disrespect to any of the riders involved .the only thing which I happen to like is the two day final. still everybody to there own opinion I see the final is sat and sunday this year I think

While you continue to have a good deal of talent coming through the ranks from a wide range of European nations who can travel to the likes of Poland with relative ease, the Polish authorities will not give a fig what the rest of the speedway world thinks. Britain has no chance of ever getting back the status it once had as the place for riders to hone their skills in one of the best league sets ups that use to exist. That may have happened by default and largely due to the relative ease of access that riders had to the U.K. compared to Eastern Bloc countries many many years back.

The FIM don’t seem to be the controlling force they once were and all in all the sport has become fragmented with different factions seeking to take care of ‘number one’

As for the U.K. they should start to plough their own furrow. Afterall Poland says it is their way or no way so why not bite the bullet in the U.K. and start from scratch. Build leagues with what you can afford with riders who will commit to ride here and also improve the ‘employment terms’ so that riders are not dumped at the drop of a hat. Build some loyalty to the team and work with them rather than treat them as commodities and most of all the clubs in the U.K. should unite to promote the sport as a whole and not occasionally at local level. When it gets to a position of strength it might then be able to stick two fingers up at the Poles and the FIM. Until then it remains a lap dog.

I posted this on another thread but thought it was fitting for it to be here as well.

I think Polish speedway authorites are spoiling speedway. There should be no top class speedway the night before a world GP anywhere. Riders deserve to be able to put in the max effort to win the world championship, the pinnacle of any sport.

You compare the laughable, farcical speedway model operated in the UK and the slick, professional model operated in Poland, and you conclude that Polish speedway authorities are ruining speedway?

Jesus wept.

Agree with a lot of that. We've barely got any GP riders left anyway so why are we continuing to ride on two midweek nights like Mondays and Thursdays too? You'll only ever get increased attendances and attract new fans long term if you race on the weekend/end of the week, maybe Friday and Saturday nights - allows people to make a night of it. Football for example is a day out for many, Speedway can't be when it's on a Monday night and most people have work the next day. I guess the only problem is that clubs don't have access to their stadiums whenever they want if they don't own them - but maybe this could be renegotiated?

THINK it was a joint effort from both the FIM and BSI/IMG to beef up interest in Friday's practice but, unlike F1 for example, being fastest the day before actually means nothing.

So maybe this could be the first and last year of qualifying, been a disaster so far!  Why not on Saturday morning?

Just now, racers and royals said:

Why should they move it ? next 2 GP`s all 16 should be at qualifying- then Wroclaw 8 are missing !!!!!!

They should move it because all the riders will be present for every qualifying session maybe?
