Dandelion
Don't know about down there, but it's rained A LOT today up here and it's practically flooded... With little bits of rain forecast every day between now and the weekend also, could this be off? Any insider information on how the track took the rain today? Expecting a Scunthorpe win also, even if we have two former Scunthorpe number 1s in the team... Scunthorpe look better at reserve, hopefully Simon can take to EWR good? I assume he likes it, with it being a big track... Matty has been solid all year so far, hope that continues... And Lasse, can he go a meeting without breaking down? On a serious note, how's his injury? Is he ok to ride this one?

Even if it's the middle of a heatwave the tracks always flooded to saturation point.

It's how you get moisture into a track &, hopefully, remain there to keep tractor breaks to a minimum.

Not to the extent where they have to pump water out of the puddles on a hot August evening. The first 5 heats are like racing in a paddy field. That's why it's not as good as it can be. I've yet to see a tractor during a meeting. Nothing wrong with one or two tractor breaks to drag the dirt back. if timed correctly it needn't impact on the meeting at all (i.e. during the interval, or when a rider has two races in a row).
IronScorpion
The EWR is nothing compared to (B)Rough Park which does look like a paddy field. Last year, we used to have the wonder wheel go round to remove the "burm" of raised shale but our present crop of riders have not asked for a grading break. It is not mandatory! Mmmm interesting comments on ( B ) rough park you say.. well you could ask all apart from 1 or 2 visiting riders who have been there so far this season & you'll get a pleasant surprise on how many have enjoyed racing on it & don't forget that we only have 1 day access to get the track RACE ready so hats off to top track man Johnny swales..

lucifer sam
Looking forward to this one. Given the two line-ups, it should be an absolute belter around the EWR.

lucifer sam
TONIGHT’S speedway meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway between the HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions and Newcastle Diamonds has been postponed due to a waterlogged track. The call-off was made at midday. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey explains: “It’s largely down to the torrential rain we’ve had over the last 48 hours. “It rained heavily on Wednesday, which we were expecting, but then it was heavy rain again yesterday (Thursday), which wasn’t forecast. “This morning, the forecast was due to be a dry day and we could got have got the track back. But it started raining again at 11am, it’s still raining now (12.15pm), and the forecast has changed and there’s now a possiblility of further rain later today. “I know we can’t get the track back in time, and I hope everyone appreciates the early call-off, rather than wasting their time tonight.” There is no re-staging date as yet, although the two clubs are in contact about a possible new date.
