Brummies v Eagles 1.5.19

Well, well....yet another 'gating' lesson for our boys???

Well done to Eastbourne....especially the promising Tom Brennan :t:

I've been a critic in the past, but I can't see how the manager was to blame in any part of this 'poor' performance?

My only differing opinion of his tactical changes would've been in heat 12....I'd of gone with Ulrich over Kyle ? but it wasn't going to make any difference to the result either way!

As for the reserve switches ? they were spot on imo and obviously tactical so far as Paco's average goes (trying to keep it down....)

The most disappointing aspect, was the 'crowd level', or lack of it? It does look like football swallowed up a big part of it ?

I cant see how we can criticise the riders for not being good enough??? Nobody tried harder than Shanes/Thomsen.....really feel for Tobias.

I'm only just beginning to see what a tough/competitive league the Championship is....I'm afraid there's going to be a few more spankings home/away.

Well done to Ulrich on his couple of wins...he beat both of Eastbourne's best 2 riders Kennett/Kerr!

I have a small concern about the track last night? far slicker than usual ? hope that wasn't tactical, because we seriously are the worst team I've seen for a long time at gating?

P.s Although we were effectively hammered...I wouldn't swap the racing for National League and will gracefully accept defeat by better teams in the Championship!

Im really starting to feel for the Brum supporters as the poorly built team is really starting to bite. Winning sides are built on riders with bargain averages or who have been improving steadily year on year, this team has been built on sentiment and there is little place for that in the sport if you want success. Zach Waj has stalled at the start of the season and should really be performing better but is likely to come good, Ash Morris is the best value signing in the side but asking him to bust a gut as 3rd heat leader in a losing side is a big ask every week. Oyster card will be considered a success this season if he treads water but is likely to continue his downward slide and Newman looks to be having the same season he has for the past 4 (i thought he would finally kick on but thats been said before). I assume Thomsen is paying for his rides as he would have been dropped from every other team in this league and possibly below it.

Im not really sure what is the way back though as breaking the bank on signings that just aren't there won't work, sticking with the same side and hoping is costing matches and supporters. Perhaps sort the track so that the poor gaters can at least come through the pack and offer up a side of crazy entertainers? Im not sure of the answer but its clear one needs to be found sooner rather than later.

Sings, Zach certainly is not the problem in fact he is doing just fine from 5.3 ave scoring 8, 9 , 6, 6, 6 and 7 so scoring above his average in every single meeting this season . I am not sure that is qualified as stalling ?

Personally i would be looking at replacing Tobias asap as the initial change . I also think Dave Mason if possible should look at advising Mr Rodgers in tactical switches etc . I know you say the meeting was over but its not the point but the only person in the entire stadium who would of put Newman in heat 11 as the tactical  switch was unfortunately the person making the tactical switch  .

Apologies i had been following his Swindon form closer than his Brum form which has been slower to start however i do believe that Zach will go on to a world class level and certainly would never be considered in the firing line.

Some totally OTT comments from Proudtobeabrummie I'm afraid.

I'm sick we lost, I'm very concerned by the crowds and I think we need to make changes but I think we were beaten by one of the better teams in the League, certainly a better side than Somerset.

Lawson is a top rider at this level and a No 1 in probably any side but Glasgow, Kennett looked the world class prospect he once was in 2 of his rides, and Kerr is may be one of the better 3rd Heat Leaders. What clinched it for them was they then have 4 of the best NL riders of 2018 - Morley and Bowtell are doing OK in their top 5, Wood is adequate and Brennan looks an absolute diamond.

We went for the Workington model 6 riders averaging 6-7 points - problem is we don't have a trick track like Workington did. We need a Lawson or a Kennett to spearhead the side and a Kerr to bang in points home and away. The balance of their team is far better than ours and we have no excuses.

Where are they and can we afford them??

On the crowd levels of tonight NO and time for all Brummies fans to rally round before its too late...as more of this and we won't have a team in CL or NL.

Don't think Workington was ever a trick track, was one of the biggest tracks in the league and anytime I went the racing was a good watch.

Zach is fine and he is performing admirably. He's hard to beat if he makes the gate....unfortunately, he doesn't get out in front often enough at the moment. When he misses the gate, he has the speed, but I don't think he quite knows how to use it to its maximum potential just yet......he still has time and I think he'll make a steady heat leader at this level, but I can't see him going any further (i.e International) just my opinion?

Whereas...Tom Brennan is going all the way!

I don't think any brummies rider last night can be accused of lack of effort, certainly not Shanes or Zac. If riders aren't good enough by all means accept they are not good enough, but no lack of effort.

As for Laurence, he can only use the cards he is dealt.

The track was slick but we now have a top track man working on it who has done wonders at Stoke. Must have been tough as they expected rain, it looked like rain all around at several points but it never came so they had to water quite a lot.

Agree about the marketing re Kids, should have been done a week ago not a few hours before, almost smacks of desperation.

With Lee now full time promoter at Swindon may be we need to bring in someone on the commercial side a bit more focused on Brummies and not elsewhere.

I would explain I would have been better saying "tricky" re Workington as opposed to "trick" - a track I have been to several times but always viewed as a "homer"...I agree PB is too fair to all.

Don't know what choices the Masons have financially, there are a few who could improve the team but can't think of an out and out No 1 you could go and sign as any available - likes of Ellis; Wilson - Dean ; Campton , Aarnio; Pavalora - are in case of first 2 may be 2nd/3rd heat leader strength and in case of last 3 no better than decent 2nd strings and we have a side full of them already.

To my mind, Zach is a major disappointment. He quite clearly looks for the safest place on the track where he is in no danger of contact with any rider or any situation which may need him to mix it with an opponent. Yes he’s scoring his average but, he’s staying safe, not taking any risks and several times last night, you  could clearly see him close the throttle off or deliberately change line to stay safe rather than to race. The clearest case was against Kennett when he  gated level but then, turned sharp right going into the first bend and rode the fence to avoid having to compete with his opponent. We all saw that no one rode the outside all night as there was no dirt, no grip and  no point doing so

Zach is flattering to deceive. To me he hasn’t had a half decent meeting so far but, is settling for safe second and third places in most races. He makes one decent gate a meeting for a race win which helps his average. I wouldn’t shed any tear if we dropped him

this is without doubt one of the worst ever Brummies teams I have seen and I’ve been watching since the late 1970’s   It won’t win a meeting all season, home or away.

Ulrich  continues his downward spiral and is at best, a third heat leader. Unfortunately, we don’t have any other heat leaders, the rest being second string or reserve quality at best.

Newman is a major disappointment and doesn’t Look like his heart is in it at all

every rider seems capable of one good ride a meeting then several poor ones

god forbid, we even managed to make Kennel look good last night.

Our gating is appalling

The meeting was over by heat five and we only looked better in the later part of the meeting as Eastbourne relaxed and eased off.

Its May 2nd. We are out of both cups already and can have no  hope whatsoever in the League. Season over already

i undrerstand why the team was  constructed this way, to be able to afford to survive financially BUT....

the team is so weak that only the die yards like myself will watch it:

people will not come to watch this dross every week  attendances are woeful and will only get worse  I, as a diehard , am struggling to find the motivation to go every week despite being a season ticket holder

I had booked the time off work to go to every away meeting but, will not be going away, to watch this team as I work way to hard to earn my money, to waste it on a completely uncompetitive team such as this

i don’t think the owners are prepared to spend the money needed to sort this out and sadly, I  an see us folding mid season

things aren’t helped you having such a tactically inept team manager  with both the meeting and, the tie long dead, he takes Tobias out of heat eight , his easiest ride,  when he needs all the track time he can get then, he uses Kyle who is struggling badly as his tactical rider when surely it should have been Ully. Rogers is speedways answer to boris Johnson  he’s a clown

last season was ruined by not making the glaringly obvious changes and I have no doubt the same will happen here

to have to keep reading official club reports that we are only a few  points from winning a meeting and that there were many positives from our performances, is quite frankly an insult to our intelligence

this team is garbage and with it, we are doomed to closure

Really like Brennan he is level headed and he certainly will be a prem rider in the future.See him at Swindon twice and in a few junior meetings and he looks a longterm prospect.Maybe along the line like the Kennett's  Dugard, (ect) a move to a bigger track will further his career would love to think that Brennan/ Rowe might both ride for Swindon in the future.

Whilst i agree that he is certainly a talent that will hit the top league personally i think its Brennan's arrogance / self belief that helps him succeed. He does have a hot headed streak that could hold him back but equally those who achieve big things often have those traits too. The opinions that winners are nice guys is often nonsense.

seen Brennan a few times and heard him interviewed at track, comes over to me as quite shy so not sure where the "arrogance" remark comes from, although have never met or spoke to the kid personally.

I think he has total faith/ respect in Martin Dugard and he looks like a rider who listen's and he learns. He reminds me of Martin ( a huge fan of him) as a rider and i  can remember when Martin learned so much off of Hans Nielsen at Oxford  he then went on and had a great career Brennan a prem rider within three years.??

Hope you posted your thoughts on the Brummies forum : )

I'm surprised at some of your comments as I often see you socialising with the manager/management and you often slated me for my previous negative comments about the manager last season??? However, I don't think any speedway manager could make a difference with our current line-up.

However, you have made some very valid and respected points (especially Tobias being replaced in arguably his weakest race? I also pointed that out to a fan last night)

I feel you've been harsh on Ulrik, who at least performed credibly last night. He shouldn't be made a scape goat (or at least appear to be...)

A new commercial manager is definitely an avenue to explore now that Lee is a much busier man at Swindon!

We've only had 2 home meetings.... 1. We were very close to a 'great' victory over Somerset 2. We were out gated and out fought and were definitely 2nd best in all departments against Eastbourne (I don't think the slick surface helped)

Don't lose faith just yet :t:

Sadly, as you’ve found to your own cost “Give us a B”, the Brummies forum only accepts positive views made by people with rose tinted glasses. Anything remotely negative just gets you slaughtered or banned, as you well know

I you were able to go onto said forum, you’d see that it is virtually dead!!

Hardly anyone posts anymore. I think most people have decided that if you have nothing good to say then say NOTHING!!!

yes, I do mix a lot with the management and am torn as to wether or not to email them with my views as I genuinely feel for them.

I fully appreciate them saving our club and understand their reasons for putting together this team. I also know from talking to them last season just how upset they were with the criticisms they received. I know that at one stage, there was the possibility of them wanting the forum shut down and even a feeling of considering strong sanctions against certain fans so,

what do you do?

I don’t want to get banned and I don’t want to be seen as the reason why the promotion walk away but, I have strong views and want to see the club flourish. This will not happen with this team

it really hurts me to see my beloved team in such a poor state of affairs and venting on here helps ease the stress and the feeling of saying enough is enough and walking away from the sport.

What would  you do Give Us A B?  Would you email the promotion and  if so, what response do you think you would get?

one abiding memory for me of last season, was just how extremely angry the promotion was over the criticisms they were hearing  and the actions they considered because of those criticisms

should I email my thoughts to them?

Early on this thread somebody posted about exciting racing , its a horrid thing to say but fans just wanna see a side win especially at home.

Ive abs no idea who built this brummies team but it really is a shockingly built side with way too much pressure on the whole top 5 , out of interest it must be way under the limit ?

In fairness i said about racing quality and i have no real allegiance to any side so just prefer entertaining speedway to watch rather than boring home side wins. However i am in the minority of fans and spread my visits around tracks so i am not the target audience.

As for the above IF it is true that the Promotion was considering sanctions against anyone who complained then they will have a very short and painful lesson in promotion as its often those who complain the most are actually those who have the most passion for a team.

On the team front i hope the season turns around for the Birmingham fans but i must say the side looks woefully weak and unbalanced. Also at the start of the season i was amazed that both Bacon/ Hume were not included   maybe Tom wanted to ride at Peterborough maybe Danyon's injury record were the reasons.??
