Sheffield's Track Woes

If you look at my post it was posted Monday morning but had not been approved until yesterday evening. Think some people out forgetting that the promotion our not taking things lightly and  our working hard to try and fix things, yes they may not be posting things or keeping people greatly informed but with all the problems they have encountered I don’t think they have to many spare minutes to spare while trying to sort out the problems, but when they are working so hard to get things done right and sorted and you get people on here just slating them all the time is it a wonder why you then have on another thread, that’s someone has herd they have put the club up for sale. Just need to be careful  and realise that speedway is not in its strongest state at the moment and we can’t aford to let any more clubs close. So why don’t we actually get behind the club and the sport and get it back to where it should be instead of moaning all the time. They put on Facebook for helpers to help out so why not sign up for that and help the club out so it can thrive again.

My post was not a slating just an observation and opinion. The promotors have done a great job since taking over and have done a good job in the winter promoting the sport but if the riders don't get a race track then the support will drop off with gate and go speedway. The track staff work very hard each week and are up against it preparing a track for Sunday afternoon racing no matter what the weather. After watching speedway for nearly 60 years I've seen enough Sunday speedway to appreciate how difficult track prep is but I think an announcement could have been made during rider interviews.Just a thought !!!!!!

Glad to see someone come on here to clear the air. Does help the fans to give an understanding of what you're dealing with and hopefully with the right time and equipment behind you we can see owlerton back to what it once was

I think most people accept that things can go wrong occasionally. Lights blow, tapes don't work, ambulance doesn't turn up, a good track is suddenly rubbish. We are, however, talking about once or twice a season.

Sunday was Sheffield's 5th home meeting. Damian Bates commented in the Redcar programme that the racing 'wasn't what we wanted'. You can probably tell what it was like from that. Reading the threads on here, Scunthorpe was decent and Redcar nondescript. Leicester & Top Gun simply attracted angry and disillusioned comments.

Once or twice a season, not 4 meetings out of 5.

Sheffield can be a fine race track. They need to get this sorted, and soon.

Posts like this make me

Basically, get what you're given, pay up and be grateful for it.

People who attend speedway pay for the privilege, so they have every right to complain if things aren't up to reasonable scratch . Lets face it, we would about anything else.

As to putting the club for sale, that's a bit like a butcher being forced to sell up and pinning the blame totally on customers for refusing to buy his rotten meat.

One other thing : all those being critical on this thread should beware. SKJ and I know only too well what can happen to a fan who complains about the state of Sheffield's track.

Sheffield was always in My top 3 British tracks.

In recent years , the racing has been very disappointing in comparison to what I used to see..... indeed I now make a token 1 visit a year to see if there has been any improvement.

Give me a good race track and I do not mind how far I travel to see entertaining racing.

if you read it right its only this year its been poor according to this thread, maybe changing the track man was a risk, but he had 3 jobs now none so was it the tracks or trackman.

maybe the owners have taken the club as far as they can??

someone on here may be able to run it better and sort the track?

You maybe right.

However, the point remains : the get what you are given and be grateful, if you don't like it, don't come attitude remains a reason why speedway is on its knees.

I can only go by what I have seen in recent years..... I stand by what I have seen

There are tracks I refuse to go to.... equally there are those that I have no problem going to regularly...

Aye, always make sure I don't wear my best when visiting Scunthorpe because you can guarantee that you'll get covered in shale!

After my first ever speedway meeting  I quickly realised where the shale was likely to be thrown up, and to avoid standing there.:D

Just go up the M18 and M180 in 40 minutes from Sheffield to see a real racers track.  Ex Sheffield Promotors, Team Managers and ex riders seem to be at the EWR in Scunthorpe every meeting.

That's the thing about Scunny - it's run on the back of Sheffield's cast-offs!  B)

maybe Sheff should have kept a few cast offs and they may have not finished bottom of the pile a few years ago ?

I couldn't agree more. That was pretty much the response I got from some when I have been critical of Somerset dropping back into the 2nd Division. From what I can gather, as I haven't been yet this season, I'm not the only one and crowds have been pretty poor as a consequence.
