So much easier now, just turn up, win, ride round, don't have to win many races, pressure? No, closed shop, rivals not around. In the 70's did you see a rider lose a race before a World Final? So tough the competition, Betts. Look at it, Ashby. Legends. Pusey, warrior. Would he lose a race today, don't think so. Grand Prix, back in the day, wow, Mauger would have won 20+, Olsen too, Collins 10... could you see them losing a race, wow, competition, Les Collins, grand prix, would he get beat, be honest? Carter, be world champ 5 times over in a GP, tough, Sanders! Different class. Joe Owen, different level, Think 1 valve. Were you there? Spot on about Joe Owen. Used to average 11 for Newcastle back in the day. If that's not proof that the old Second Division was stronger than the top league is now, then what is? 1
iris123
What is more amazing is those old riders done it all and still had time to down 7 pints of ale before, during or after every meeting. Stoke Potter
Back to topic; it needs (at least) 2 to make a race, and 2 men made that race. It's a shame Pedersen still hasn't found the missing engine "ingredient" that he's been lacking for approx 5 seasons and that the very top riders have sussed. CountyGround
The current GP system has a bias advantage toward Polish & Polish league riders with "3" GPs based in Poland!!!!! Without that advantage it would take exceptional talent to become a WC today.
