Guest
It's odd to think that there was once league speedway in Holland and South Africa. League racing ceased in both countries circa 50 years ago. Even stranger perhaps is that Holland sent a team to South Africa for a test series and that a South African team raced tests in Holland a few years later. Guest
As I understand it, in New Zealand all track sport - solo speedway, sidecars, various car formulas, are all governed by one authority. http://www.speedway.co.nz/home-1 http://www.speedway.co.nz/championships/championships-1 Edited February 2, 2019 by Guest

I have been on the thread in regard to the demise of speedway in South Africa. As noted by me I was aware of a South African team touring Europe in the early 1950s. However the excellent 'farewell South Africa thread' also indicates that in the 1990s a South African team also raced in Poland? That's if I have read the Link correctly. If the tour did take place, was there detailed coverage in the 'Speedway Star' at this time?
britmet
Correct, a 6-match tour of Poland against club teams in 1994, which the Poles recipricated in '95/96 and again in '96/97. S.African riders also did a 3-match tour of Hungary in 1992. All known details of both at http://www.speedway-sa.com/test-matches-2.php
Guest
A question: what other racing formula besides speedway did these riders compete in: John Reason, Derrick Tailby, Alan Hunt, Frank Chiswell, Percy Brine, Doug Templeton. iris123
How strange is a Brazilian rider? Well ok,we do have one riding this last decade or so,in a way But Antonio wasn't the first. In fact he wasn't even the first Antonio from Brazil to ride in Europe Way back in 1930 a rider from Brazil,Antonio Moreno turned up in Hamburg and rode a number of meetings. In fact he won his first race........
