Riders without a team place

With most of the team places taken for next year, the following riders appear to have been left out.

Paul Hurry

Luke Bowen

Adam Royon

All 3 have had a lot of injuries in their careers, not sure if they are fit or planning to ride again

Ben Hopwood

Mitchell Davey

Bradley Andrews

These 3 all finished the season on the injury list.

Matt Marson

Had a decent first season at Mildenhall

Charley Powell

Mark Baseby

Both have been left out after Eastbourne moving to the Championship

Rob Shuttleworth

Walked out of a meeting and was suspended by Stoke

Luke Harris

Likely to fill the final place at Cradley

Jon Armstrong

Reported as not enjoying his speedway last season, so may not be planning to ride again

Josh Embleton

Showed a lot of promise last season, so surprising, he doesnt have a team place

Tom Woolley

Another surprise, as he has been slowly improving each season, and in a weakened league, could well  be an 8 point rider.

Probably a few others without a place.

In all fairness there are few riders who are truly missing out from the list. The majority are seeing out careers / have had injury problems hampering them. Shuttleworth & Wooley have been around for year and apart from one good season each at Belle Vue have stagnated at the same level every season. Don't know if Marson is coming back over this season? Embleton is likely to drop into a team part way through so for me the only genuine misses are Armstrong & Tony Atkin and largely because if that is the end of their careers they didn't get a proper goodbye.

Kieran Douglas

With respect there are several reserves from last year that fall into the Douglas, Embleton category that don't pick up places the following season and has been the case since day dot. Fact is some take the opportunity and some don't, in much the same way that some faces fit and others don't and some get multiple chances and others get very few.

Does Sheldon Davies have a place ? Real shame if not !

Another that has suffered from the reduction in lowest signing average. Did alright coming in at short notice and will probably do the same again this year. Kit needs updating badly but hard to see any motivation to do that without a team place.

Just saw that he's signed up for the B'ham Bull, so at least he's getting some competitive track time for what it's worth.

Certainly a better looking Bulls outfit this year which should help rectify the poor impression the development leagues can give (the standard gulf within riders last year was far too wide).

Does make me chuckle slightly that several development squads have already been named despite AGM not taking place until Feb.

Bulls squad (or most of it) is is on the Brum website, Weymouth have been leaking riders through social media channels.

For the most part its encouraging to see the majority of sides returning to the tapes again although question marks remain over P'boro & Kents involvement. Would be nice if Sheffield & Leicester (Long Eaton) could track sides again especially with the switch to weekend race days.

Unlikely you'll see Long Eaton race again , chairman is now half of the IOW promotion ,and Steve Cook  gave up the manager job  after more stupidity from the BSPA . Sheffield always had problems with second halves  ,a 7.45 start and a strict 10 oclock curfew ,meant that  most MDL meetings were cut to 4 races , more than once a main team rider wanted to test something and  the meeting was cancelled altogether . good to keep butcher and davies in the shop window and a couple of new faces may show promise , hellowell been around since the beginning of MDL and done nothing ,

More a hope that Long Eaton will run again rather than realistic visions but maybe the new promotion could really start to put together a conveyor belt? (we can dream)

Sheffield popped into my head again as the move to Sundays "may" mean an earlier start time / more time prior to curfew?

To be honest the Bulls don't have one decent bike between them and that will always hold them back and will halt any of their progress long term. Hellowell is probably the best female rider competing in the UK at this current time however that is not what speedway is about.
