topaz325
Sad news on Tomasz gollob , best wishes Tomasz. ON TOMASZ GOLLOB (10th of December) – Please, pray for this iron man Tomasz still struggles with the constant spastic pains, that does not allow him to function normally. Currently, he suffers so much, that it is impossible to continue the rehabilitation, which was to help him reduce the most onerous symptoms. Recently, Tomasz underwent the two operations: the first – the removal of the gall bladder, the second – an implantation a special stimulator near the spine to help fight with the pain. Unfortunately, despite that a few weeks have passed since the operation, even the smallest improvement has not been observed. 'For now, the implanted stimulator didn't help, but it doesn't mean, that there's no chance of improvement. At this point, we must focus primarily on a selection of appropriate parameters of stimulation and the treatment with antibiotics' – says professor Marek Harat. At present, the pains are so troublesome, that Tomasz rarely sit on the wheelchair and spends most of his time in a bed. 'Neuropathic pains are so strong, that the traditional painkillers are unable to control it. Patients are given the anti-epileptic medicines. The problem is, that Tomasz doesn't tolerate part of them and he feels very bad after them' – says professor Harat. Neuropathic pains occur in up to seven percent of patients with damaged spinal cord. They are so strong, that they are often compared to the electric shock, but medicine still does not know the answer, what is their reason. The pains occur independently or they can also be caused by an appearance of even the smallest stimuli, such as a skin contact with a clothing or a riding a wheelchair into the slightest unevenness. The recurring infections almost every week are also a huge problem. Tomasz's body is so weak, that any change in the conditions causes a high fever. This is why he avoids the guests, leaving the house only for the control and the next dose of strong drugs in the hospital. Despite the huge problems with his health, Tomasz intends to appear in public on 16th of December, during Edited December 12, 2018 by topaz325 3

OveFundinFan
I feel for anyone suffering from such injuries and there consequences. Tomas was at his best whilst I had lost interest in speedway so didn’t get to see him at his best, but, hey, he is an ex world champ so deserves deep respect. Sincerely hope he gets through this trial and can start to recover to some better place then he is in at the moment.
Sotonian
It's difficult to read that without becoming teary-eyed. Tomasz went from zero to hero in my book from the Boycey incident to becoming World Champ and I wish him all good luck in his recovery.

Bunce
This made for a really hard read. For any of us that had the pleasure of watching Tomasz at the peak of his career, it must come as a huge shock to find he is still suffering so badly. I can't imagine the pain and frustration he must be feeling, and the possible prospect that things may never improve much, must be awful for him. It is so sad that several of the sports greatest riders have paid such a terrible price to entertain us, although I believe the injuries to Tomasz and Leigh Adams were not actually on a speedway track, but it matters little in the grand scheme of things. I must also mention Darcy Ward, probably one of the most naturally talented young riders we have seen for many years, he too had his career cut tragically short in a split second. I must admit I was truly shocked to read about Tomasz's condition, I pray that things will improve for him and all those other riders who have suffered such appalling injuries whilst entertaining us all.
racers and royals
Sportowefakty article- translated by Google. Tomasz Gollob fourth in line for treatment in Switzerland. The operation can cost 4 million There is a chance that at the turn of April and May Tomasz Gollob will go to a Swiss clinic dealing with experimental treatment consisting in electrical stimulation of the core. The master betrayed that he is fourth in line. . Professor Harat gave Gollob the green light for an operation in Switzerland. There is hope that the champion will stand on his feet At a Friday press conference beginning the ZOOleszcz group meeting in Bydgoszcz, Tomasz Gollob revealed in an interview with Expres Bydgoski that a Swiss clinic dealing with electrical stimulation of the core inscribed it in the queue for surgery. The world champion said that he is fourth in it. In the hands of Swiss doctors (they do two operations per month), they can be found at the turn of April and May. Gollob from a cross-country accident that occurred in April 2017 is paralyzed from the chest down. He moves on the wheelchair. In the second half of last year, Tomasz underwent two operations. One was pacemaker implantation, which reduced spastic pain. The second was to remove the stones from the gall bladder. The speedway player has been recovering for a long time, and another huge effort will be waiting for him in a moment, because this will be the procedure of placing a pulse generator in the core. Tomasz will have to appear in a Swiss clinic a week before The method that Professor Marek Harat (taking care of Gollob) calls a research program has already helped three men. There is hope that in Tomasz's case it will be the same. Besides, the professor gave Gollob the green light, he said he should try this method. If this happens, it will cost PLN 4 million.

BL65
Doctors specialising in pain management can sometimes achieve excellent outcomes for their patients. I endured excruciating non-stop pain from nerve damage for 4 years until I had a spinal cord stimulator implant in 2006, followed by a replacement upgrade implant in 2012, courtesy of the U.S. company St. Jude Medical/Advanced Neuromodulation Systems (ANS). Prior to receiving the implanted device I had been prescribed numerous strong painkillers, including Gabapentin and Pregabalin, none of which were of benefit. I was fortunate as the implant immediately had a positive effect, reducing the level of pain in my legs and feet by about 50% on a bad day and much more than that on good days. Following the replacement in 2012 the level of pain is hardly noticeable most of the time and when it is present it is bearable. The implant programs can be altered remotely by the patient, in order to modify the frequency, intensity and areas requiring stimulation. ANS is now part of Abbott Laboratories, with a Swiss subsidiary, ANS Suisse AG. Tomasz will be in good hands if he is to receive treatment from this company or another with similar expertise. He has significantly more severe medical issues than me and the nature of the surgery will undoubtedly be highly complex and more advanced than for a straightforward stimulator implant, but I wish him well and hope for a rapid improvement in his condition following his forthcoming treatment. 5
