Speedway seems to be a sport where you seem to find your true level, regardless of age starting, after about five years..

Not many ride for five years or so then clearly go up a level...

Jason Doyle and David Norris are two for me that I remember becoming 'very good' after a few years of 'average' performances...

Not too many others I can remember doing the same

If you have rode for 8 years and are still an average NL rider then that is pretty much where your ability level is I would suggest..

You I recall seeindoyle in the SS signing for rye house in the premier league because he needed the rides, now look at him

With the greatest of respect because i like Coles to even make any reference between him and Doyle is barmy. Doyle has spent more on one bike than Connor has on equipment in his career and there lies the massive difference even if the ability was there (and im not sure it is as there are a few style issues) Coles pockets are nowhere near deep enough to be really competitive even at NL level.

And yet you slay Shelby on every thread you can ....  Shebs been using 1 of Tais bike from 2008 , He rode here in 09 n NEVER got back on a bike until 2015 because he couldnt afford it .. Got an offer to come back for another crack .. Sure he hasnt set the world on fire but he does it all on his own .. Drives himself to the track n back , was working 50+ hours a week till the Boss ran off with everyones pays .. works on his own bikes other than at the track . Breaks his back n still has the desire to come back n try again .. Doesnt get a van n free room n motors etc etc like yas all think . He bought his old Transit , rents his own house n pays pretty much every penny he earns on gear to race .. a few sponsors help . He dont go to the pub or clubs , he goes to the GYM to rebuild  ..  If you had 1/2 a clue about the crap these guys go thru to race just to have KEYBOARD CLOWNS like you that have probably never slung a leg over a bike talk rubbishE about em im sure they would offer up a bike n have you show em how to be better ..   If you go to Stoke then go n ask him , im sure he will hook ya up !!

Will have to break this down into chunks as i just struggle to read the blurb above.

I don't rate Shelby as a rider but don't slay him on every thread i can.

Been using one of Tai's 2008 bikes? Im sure he will be delighted to know you have shared his love of museum pieces.

There are plenty who bust a gut and work log hours to race and i take my hat off to them all, i have no issue with that although it doesn't make Rutherford special in the slightest.

Its a forum and my opinion is that Rutherford is occupying a team place that would be better used going to a rider who is going to develop and benefit from it.

However i am not a promoter and the opinion from Stoke is that a rider in the NL who has been hovering around the 3.5 mark constantly but has some better days is worth the use of points, as the season progresses it will become clearer who's judgement is better.

Coles seems to be one of them riders who has ‘potential’ year after year but never really lives up to it. But you have random ones like Starke who was in a similar situation and did make a breakthrough.

I quite like Coles he was at Newcastle a couple of seasons ago his gating wasn’t too bad he was usually in points scoring positions but just couldn’t get the hang of brough park and he used to fall quite often unfortunately, when he later got dropped. I’ve always thought he had something about him but for whatever reason he hasn’t seemed to have kicked on which is a shame.

Late on this, but I thought it was a good report in Speedway Star on Stoke in last week's issue.

I went to the track last year and thought it was a bit tired BUT saw some good racing on a well prepared track. People were friendly and helpful.

No complaints from me. I wish Stoke well. It was a far cry from what I had been led to believe would see..

how refreshing to hear some good reviews for the potters for a change. I have been going to stoke for several years now and while I would admit things have not always been great in the past this year I think there is a good vibe about the place. the track is riding very well and the team look a lot more competitive so I say a big well done to dave and his team. up the potters.

Yes, two lots of chips and two pints.

The weather was cold, so two pints of cold beer was a mistake.

I know: I will blame the Stoke promotion for selling cold lager on a cold night.

Can't let this positivity about Stoke run away uncontrolled, can we @porkypotter.

Seriously, this was NL speedway and I enjoyed my night. Didn't feel ripped off and went home entertained,  full and cold (damn lager).

I once went to Stoke (many years ago) and on a freezing cold night March night there was a chap next to me in a T shirt drinking pint after pint of cold lager.

He must have been on drugs :D

Stoke have been (usually justifiably) battered for the poor standard of speedway at the track for years. If they are improving, it is right that they get the credit for that.

after several seasons of failure it is hard not to get a little giddy with expectation so I am all for blowing the trumpet and banging the drum to support the potters. interesting to read the Mildenhall result and see that our ex manager is coming in for a little flack. onwards and upwards for us we hope. good luck to all the lads.

Think I read 3.30 somewhere.looking forward to my annual visit.

The track could well get a thorough testing today with around 200 pre 1970 bangers racing at the stan woods memorial and the weather forecast isn't great. By all accounts queues are already at the top of Loomer road.

After witnessing many farce meetings at Stoke thru various reasons I vowed never to return, however it seems like things are gradually being turned around so I'l be attending this season. More than happy to support a club that's trying to change things around

well done Bruno. come and give it a try. I like yourself have found things less than perfect in the past but things are much improved this season with a good race track, a decent team and a good new manager. we may even have some good close matches with you heathens now that we have trained up young cleggy for you (joke) and if we can get luke chessell firing on all cylinders we should have some good scraps. up the potters.

Me too - all being well, against Kent on 12 May.

I'll see how much they have improved - that is a 3pm start.
