Bradley Wilson Dean would come in on his converted PL average of 7.91 effective 1st May.

Birmingham enquired about BW-D told quite firmly he is focusing on Poland and would not be able to ride Saturday or Sunday in UK .

The Eastbourne Fineprint Eagles have signed Kyle Newman in time for Saturday’s showdown with the Berwick Bandits (subject to BSPA approval).

Kyle will join the team as an injury replacement for Tom Brennan, who suffered a broken leg on Saturday.

A full update on Tom’s condition will follow later in the week.

Naturally, everyone at the club wishes Tom all the very best.

Co-promoter Trevor Geer said: “Make no mistake, losing Tom is a huge blow to the club and rider and the only consolation is that his amazing start to the season allows us to introduce a rider of Kyle’s quality.

“He [Kyle] has proved he knows the fastest way around Arlington and his experience will be crucial as we seek to rebuild our confidence and season.”

Team news for the Championship League match at Somerset tomorrow (Wednesday, May 22) will be issued later today.

The club will need to secure a two-point guest to replace Tom as the new averages come do not come into to force until after this match.

wish Kyle well a nice lad.

he started desperately slowly for us and looked race rusty.

had a couple of decent meetings v Somerset at home (paid 9) including a stunning overtake of Schlein and not many doing that in CL and then did OK  conveniently enough at Arlington with 8 points in our KOC drubbing on Good Friday.

I thought he had turned a corner but then 2 poor meetings 2 thrashings at Sheffield and home to Eastbourne.

He was expected to do Heat Leader job for us but with 3 proper Heat Leaders at Eagles may take pressure off him a bit.

I hope you're right, should be so much less pressure, probably riding at 4, than being second heat leader to the lowest average no1 in the league. Although wanting a quick turnaround of fortune, I'm sure John Cook would have put that in his mind, especially knowing him from Lakeside days.

I think what every Team found in the winter and what every team is finding now is that there is a lack of ready and available riders with an average in the 5.00 to 6.50 range.

That's the range Brennan has ridden himself in to.

You can take a chance abroad or a guy who may not have ridden for a while, as a No 4 I think he is better than Morley, not as good as Brennan at home but may be better at this stage away.

He's a genuine trier and good to see him get fixed up and you make a good point that John Cook and Will Pottinger will know him well from Lakeside.

Have to feel for Tom not just because of the nasty injury but because he has seen his average leap and then picked up the break. So whilst he was definitely performing well its not a "true" seasons average. Huge plus is that he is an emerging talent with strong links at Eastbourne so there will always be a place for him when he is ready which is not something every rider can rely on.

Hope he doesn't try to come back too quickly, get those young bones healed properly. Hopefully him, Edwards, and eventually Ablitt will be the basis of another great Eastie era, although not quite the same great era of speedway in general as it was in the Dugard, Norris etc time.

THE following statement has been issued by Eastbourne Speedway:

As supporters and all speedway fans and well-wishers will be aware, Tom suffered a bad accident in heat 12 of the meeting at Eastbourne against Glasgow last Saturday (May 18).

Following admittance to Hastings Conquest Hospital on Saturday evening, Tom was assessed and diagnosed with a broken leg in three places to his tibia and fibula.

An operation to pin and plate the breaks was planned for Monday.

However, on that day, Tom showed signs of breathing difficulties which meant that the planned operation had to be delayed and these symptoms worsened on Tuesday.

Following a full consultation with the family, Tom was placed on to a ventilator and an induced coma on Tuesday to both give his lungs chance to recover and to ease his distress.

On Wednesday, the specialists were confident that this had worked well enough to allow them to undertake the important operation on Tom’s leg and this has now been completed and the leg pinned and plated.

As of this lunchtime (Thursday, May 23) the surgeons are "very happy" with the outcome of that operation.

Tom remains on a ventilator and the plan is to bring him round sometime later today so that further assessment can be made.

The diagnosis is that the impact of the crash has caused some damage to Tom's lungs that can be fully assessed once he wakes, and now that the vital operation on his broken leg has been successfully completed.

The family are very grateful and overwhelmed by all the messages of support at this very difficult time and have apologised for not responding to many of them at this stage.

They have also asked that all messages are passed on via the club at this stage and Eastbourne Speedway will of course pass those on for you.

The club will only comment when authorised by Tom's family.

We send them collectively, individually and on behalf of everyone all our love and support.

Eastbourne Fineprint Eagles will be holding a "bucket collection" for Tom at the meeting against Berwick on Saturday and there will be big GET WELL cards for supporters to sign.

So as to not inundate the family, if you wish to bring your own Get Well cards for us to pass on, we would be delighted to do so.

Tom is very much an integral part of the Eastbourne family and we hope that you will all come along and show your love and support on Saturday, so that we can all collect together to support a very special person and family.

Like a lot of people no doubt, I'm struggling with a reply to this. Can only wish Tom and his family well again, especially now knowing the full extent of his injuries.

Awful news about Tom, I wish him well like we all do, a fantastic prospect for British speedway..

With regards to Eastbourne, Georgie Wood with a full 15 pointer for the IOW tonight and Ben Morley with a paid 15 pointer will give them both a confidence boost to take forward..
