No idea is the a stock car community up there maybe a collaboration between both.

all our stock cars are being used on the  roads  , so there is no need for a stock car track to be built in the area . SO LETS CREATE ONE AND DO A SCUNNY .

Silloth  airfield. ,that  brings back mameries ! my old man had a ford anglia in the stocks . by the time he had welded/bolted girders into it . it had the top speed and acceleration of a Sinclair c5 . it was  pink, hence the name the pink panther with back off boogaloo written on the boot .didnt last long tho .

if i . remember correctly , there were large tyres around the rugby pitch to stop the cars running onto it. i think they also tried motocross there as well (but not on the hallowed turf)

my old man jumped through a flaming hoop of fire at derwent park on my yammy trail bike ,  just asked to borrow it . didnt tell . me he was going to try and set it on fire tho .

way too much elf and safety nowadays . folk cannot enjoy theme selves at all .

entertainment now ? its  a toss up between C.F.C. or  the REDS now . rugby is not my thing .

Is it not possible that northside can be developed like scunny. Track would need to be bigger but have it open 24/7 speedway stock cars to generate the revenue

This would be the best scenario, additonal income to that generated by speedway is pretty much essential for clubs to be able to run. Scunthopre make a lot of money from their regular amateur meetings which in turn help to support the speedway. Northside would need a substantial cash injection to bring it up to size and be developed effectively for these things to happen but working on the basis that all income including food, car parking and bar takings would benefit the speedway it has to one of the options for the Club

Was there not a plan approved by the council late in 2018 for the provision of a large trailer park for our lovely travelling fraternity. I know we had a debate on here about how it would affect the training track. I was told it was down the line, and the training track could be safe for a few years yet.

Was this not promoted by the late Ian Thomas ? I cant recall if attracted many people or not but it ran alongside the speedway for maybe one season

I read an article on the local newspaper site a few weeks ago about the council getting into hot water for not providing such a park for the travelling community, they are over there anyhow on a regular basis leaving a LOT of mess which has then to be cleared up by the council. I believe the provision of such park gives the council more clout when it comes to moving travellers on from laybyes and other land they choose to park on.

I have read several times on short circuit car racing sites that former speedway rider Mitch Graham was involved in the car racing meetings.

Hard as it is for the fans, for some of them it must feel like the end of the word. I know it did for me when Wimbledon closed. Riders will never have the same attachment to clubs like the supporters do, they just move on to the next job. The days of one club men like Ronnie Moore are well an truly over. How would you feel if Sheffield shut?.

You try reading Mason Campton article and tell me again that it's harder on the fans than the riders. I have full sympathy for the workington loyals. But I'm sorry, nothing compares to losing a job or in Campton case, a career.

I am gutted with the situation at Workington.. I love my team very much.  BUT I actually find myself not gutted for me as a fan but for the 7 lads who would have worn the big C with pride. It is a shame it ended this way for all concerned especially Laura & Jacko who bleed Workington speedway.

As a loyal fan I will however endeavour in anyway I can along with my fellow die hards to keep the Comets memory alive in 2019 and we will do our best to help the Comets rise again however we can.

Got to feel for them all but Mason in particular has been hit really hard by the what has happened at Worky. Hopefully we can return to racing in 2020 on a stronger financial footing. I would like to think that there is a strategy being compiled that can help us achieve this, one that all us fans can contribute to in whatever way and to whatever level we can. Gonna miss my speedway fix at Derwent Park of that there is no doubt.

So now the 2019 fixtures are out it makes the loss of Comets even more sad. Now being on the outside looking in at all the anticipated thrills, spills and excitement from those still operating a track is almost mind blowing...:(

Very sad indeed  !!

If there is any chance that Comets can come to the tapes in 2020 we need to do everything we can to help Laura bring it back....

i have a genuine question:

Did all them meetings in October have an effect on the club for example were attendances good?

A significant reason that the Comets cannot run this year, is just that...the sheer volume of meetings they were forced to fit in, within such a short space of time !  In other words, they were literally "victims of their own success" !!  Whilst attendances were up on normal for a lot of those meetings, it STILL wasnt enough to pay off debts unfortunately.
