So that was 10 years ago.....obviously without any success............not giving much confidence for the immediate future is it?

It's just sad to see clubs disappear, and hopefully someone can eventually find land to run speedway within the London area........hope they are still trying.??

There is a lot of land around the A13 area, around Rainham and towards London. I think some of that land is not good to build on as it is marsh, but could be ok for a track? Maybe? As for Basildon, I doubt it, all land around there is grabbed for housing. Mind you, there is Watt Tyler Park? Lot of land there!

Didn’t the people renting the stadium have a two year lease and decided not to take up the second year due to poor crowds? Think it was more to do with the four wheeled events but Iam sure that’s what they said, they also said poor crowds at the speedway but Cook said they get the same money from them regardless of the crowd.

I think was more to do with the food outlets and shops. The rent they paid  the stadium owners was absolutely exhorbitant. With falling crowds overall in both Speedwáy and stock car the shops weren't making so much money which meant the stadium owners couldnt screw so much rent out of them. I noticed towards the end of the season that two or three of the shops weren't even bothering to open.

The statement says two clubs from national league will be moving up to championship, maybe Kent with Jon Cook?

They have certainly asked for a change to their present planning permission.

Some of the objectors seem to believe there will be speedway 6 nights a week...……….

wasnt there racing at lakeside BEFORE any houses were built? Shirley when you purchase a house you should ask about any noise disturbances  before you buy . i am not too sure about this , but some good votes to keep lakeside operating in the future .

best of luck tho ..

Just listened to Cook on the radio who said they are still fighting to stay on the Arena Essex site due to half of the land not being suitable for houses anyway, he also said the cost of moving to Rye House cost him and Stuart a fortune and if any third party wants to help it would purely be as a fan as they would lose lots of money just to keep the hammers name going. He did say the BSPA wouldn’t let them run at Rye even if they could due to the way they fell out regarding Rye House closing. He didn’t say where but said him and Stuart will be moving onto other projects but there is two people dedicated to continuing the fight to get Lakeside back on track. Iam pretty sure he also said there is no chance of the club running for at least the next two seasons. Lastly he said what happened with Swindon was a big positive and the local Thurrock MP is good friends with the Swindon MP so hopefully that can be a big help to the hammers.

Some of that fault is speedway's and the people who run it. Speedway is such low profile, the average man in the street just thinks oily motorbikes making a noise. The sport i.e. the 'promoters' don't bother to try and raise it's profile to the locals or try and raise speedway's general profile.

Lakeside tried hard to promote the sport to the locals.

Perhaps Lakeside did. The point I was saying, is if you are looking for locals to support, say a new stadium application, due to the general public not really knowing what speedway is, the chances are they will just think it is noisy smelly motorbikes, that is about to appear on their doorstep. One of the problems for that, I feel, is speedway has such a low profile and most people haven't a clue what it is.

I totally agree and for a while Lakeside did loads of different things to try and get more locals through the gates. The product needs to change to keep these new people coming back.

Calling all Speedway fans!  Please take 10 seconds to sign the petition in the link below to help to save Speedway in Essex.  The Lakeside Hammers have been left without a track following the recent closure of the Arena-Essex Raceway, so that even more housing can be built in the area.  Let's let the local council know how much people want Speedway in the region and what a great, exciting evening out it is for all the family.  Many thanks everyone.

2500 signatures on the petition so far, which as these things go, is said to be quite impressive . A number of riders have given their support, including Jason Doyle. The target is 3000 signatures. If you haven't signed it yet , pleas e do so , and if Auntie Lil and Uncle Bert haven't signed it see if you can get them to support it, to help the club get it over the line.   Thanks..
