That's totally incorrect as far as I am aware,  the rent has stayed the same but Deane has insisted the club pay the Vat on the rent.

As Mildenhall speedway must be a fully taxable VAT registered business all the input VAT on the rent would be fully recoverable so not a cost to Mildenhall speedway.

So he rent has stayed the same.

If thats the case Arnie, I'll have a word with my Spedeworth mate. He was quite high up the food chain there, and is not known for telling porkies.

That's a bit odd. If VAT is due, Mildenhall would have had to pay the VAT, it's not an option. And Deane would then pay the VAT to HMRC, less the VAT the stock car business has paid within the business. And Mildenhall would then reduce their VAT bill to HMRC, less the VAT they have paid within the business. All VAT is, is a mechanism to collect tax for HMRC.

I am in no position to name info as fact, just my understanding of the situation. As has happened in the past my info may be total fiction, but it has come from a credible source at least.

Like you say, if it's a credible source then it should be true. My mate worked for Spedeworth for over 20 years until retirement. So i had no reason to doubt him.

That's me done with live speedway then. I don't have a car and the effort and expense required to get to the nearest tracks on public transport makes it a non starter for me. I'll maybe make one or two trips to meetings during the year, but after 45 years I'll no longer have a team of my own to support.

Same mate having no team to support is a kick in the nuts but to be honest I felt like that once Lakeside moved, today is the final nail in the coffin. Such a shame after all these years.

The statement says two clubs from national league will be moving up to championship, maybe Kent with Jon Cook?

..or Eastbourne but both clubs are rather remote as far as the Championship is concerned.

..... if only a few more of these Johnny come lately's turned up on a regular basis this place would not be facing closure.

The crowd sizes for events at Arena have absolutely nothing to do with the stadium closure.  The event organisers paid the rent to a private company regardless of attendance.  This is completely down to acquiring land for even more housing in South Essex.

The Government had earmarked the land for a Compulsory Purchase Order years ago.  Some Hammers riders back in 2008 told me that Stuart & Jon had been looking for a site for a potential new stadium in areas like Basildon as the Thames Gateway housing plan was going to claim the large Arena Essex plot of land sooner or later.

I did hear some rumours that the ground couldn't be used for housing due to issues from it's former quarry days, but that seems untrue or to have been overcome.

Let's just hope we all see an Essex Hammers team in a new stadium very soon!

Didn’t the people renting the stadium have a two year lease and decided not to take up the second year due to poor crowds? Think it was more to do with the four wheeled events but Iam sure that’s what they said, they also said poor crowds at the speedway but Cook said they get the same money from them regardless of the crowd.

a lease is a lease . if you sign a lease for any given time . you pay for the duration of the lease . even if you dont use it ! they could have been in on a licence .

It was a one year lease with the option of a second which was not taken.

So that was 10 years ago.....obviously without any success............not giving much confidence for the immediate future is it?

It's just sad to see clubs disappear, and hopefully someone can eventually find land to run speedway within the London area........hope they are still trying.??
