2nd leg play off final

Recommended Posts

Well done to the Comets, who are worthy winners and whom I fully expect to join the select band of treble trophy winners tomorrow.

Appropriate that the two sides that have had their scheduled Friday home  fixtures messed up by the powers that be,  more than anyone else, should contest the Championship Play-Off Final.

I heard a figure of just under 1100 for the attendence - ia that correct?

Maybe that was the figure 30 mins before tapes up you were given........

.....the Grandstand was well packed and holds 1000..so let's, as a conservative guess, say 900 in there.....the 1st and 2nd bends were well populated, as was the back straight - popular side of stadium...it's not easy to guesstimate of course but the figure looked more like 2000 to me....

I'd guess 1300-1500, but I am not very familiar with the stadium so it is a very rough estimate.

1100 may be a fair figure for adult admissions

If it's like Swindon, who don't include a few hundred guests, sponsors, volunteers, hangers on and cheapskates in their figure.

Congratulations to Workington. I was one of those who thought it looked a poor team at the start of the season but happy to be proved wrong.

Nice to see Bickley making another good contribution last night. Credit to the Workington management for sticking with him earlier in the year when he was struggling. I know they said at the start of the season there was no pressure on him but that's often said by teams and that rider is then the first to make way for changes. He's ended up more than playing his part in this success.

Unfashionable they maybe, but they are still a terrific little club as well. Definitely one of my favourite places to visit for more reasons than the racing alone.

A quick word for Tony Jackson here. I have never met him, but I have never heard a bad word about him either (which, where speedway is concerned, is exceptional).  Comets through and through, from standing on the terraces to becoming team manager and co-promoter. There's no doubt he has made a substantial contribution to Workington's season and its all the more pleasing when one of the decent guys gets his share (more than his share) of success.

I echo your view regarding the future of the Comets. For me at least, speedway simply wouldn't be the same without them.

It seems the current vogue is to refer to the Comets as an unfashionable club.   On what basis is that theory brought folks' mind-set?

We have probably one of the ** best stadiums** in the Championship, a great racing friendly track. Plus, obviously, the best team, and despite reports to the contrary a great bunch of fans. With one of the best away followings by numbers in the sport....what is 'unfashionable' about any of that?

**Peterborough also good**........any others ????
