AGM November 2018

Recommended Posts

Presume that the plan is no longer to narrow the gap between the leagues to include promotion and relegation..?

42.5 at 1.5 conversion rate is 63.75 equivalent at Championship level...

Against a 38 point Championship top level..

And the rate is set to go higher.

Or am I reading it wrong?

To be fair, clear demarcation between the leagues should be encouraged to ensure we have some kind of aspirational journey for teams and riders...

" The British Premiership, Championship and National Development Leagues have entertained a growing and more diverse audience by consistently delivering speedway of the highest quality. "

The plan to gradually reduce doubling-up/down is fair enough because I don't think you can just bin it completely straight away but is the plan likely to survive it's 5 years? The Premiership using Thursday's is the sensible option just a year too late.

A fan nominated race via social media just seems like a poor attempt at trying to look modern, it's hardly going to keep kids entertained during races etc. And naming a competition the 'Premiership Supporters Cup' is awful and embarassing, that needs changing right now before the season starts.

Overall it mostly seems more of the same and disappointing.

Pretty decent on the whole I think  - the social media chosen race is a bit of a gimmick but so what, it's interaction which is at least some step towards getting people engaged. Definite move towards having a strong EL and a weaker PL which is pretty much what everyone has said on here for the last few days, get the top riders out of the league and make the PL an amateur league again, where you need a job to survive.

All EL tracks are pretty good and Leicester are out of it so the racing should be decent if there are some good riders. The NL supporters club group is another step in the right direction, as is the Ltd company approach, they've opened themselves up which, again, is what people have wanted for years. BT onboard again, happy days.

I was actually quite positive reading about it and it sounded good but people on here just seem to pan every AGM regardless of the outcome. About as enjoyable to read as the usual biscuit jokes.

Slightly surprised to see this...."The British Premiership, Championship and National Development Leagues have entertained a growing and more diverse audience by consistently delivering speedway of the highest quality".

That statement doesn't exactly chime with many of the supporters on here, not to mention the number of promoters who've been pleading poverty (both financially and in terms of crowd numbers) over the past few months.

Seems that contrary to popular belief everything is just hunky dory.....

38 point limit... Jesus.. Shocking

Devaluing a product is wrong.. Always has been

Massive race now to sign  crap 4 and 5point riders.. Tobias Busch has just become more valuable than Ricky Wells

That's me just about done with speedway sadly

That's the trouble with point limits...it's more about whose average fits rather than ability and it tends to squeeze out riders and to juggle the maths to come up with a team that fits within whatever the limit is set.

Reducing the strength of the Championship is the correct move both in terms of putting a gap between the products and financially for Championship Clubs.

Maintaining the strength in Premiership is a start

Plan to reduce doubling up/down over time is the correct move. Doesn't explain how much doubling up/down is to be allowed in 2019?

Monday & Thursday race nights is the right call and should reduce guests/RR still further.

Sad to see Somerset go, enjoyed the 'derbies' with them over the last couple of years.

Supporters Cup is a terrible name and sounds a gimmicky idea for the sake of it. Why not bring back something meaningful as a start of season competition such as the Craven Shield....possibly run over a 13 heat format. Will be interesting to see how those nominations go and how they put the idea into practice. Raise of hands!!

You wait until a Russian troll farm fixes it so that Simon Lambert rather than Robert Lambert is nominated ;)

Oh come on, in a time of absolute crisis for the sport the message from the AGM is "Everything's rosy" and the sport will largely carry on as it is...over the edge of a cliff.

:D

Don't worry I've seen the type of thing where Pitbull gets sent to a WalMart in Alaska and so on, but if we get to the point that the Premiership Supporters Cup goes viral then it probably means we have more than 10,000 fans.

Saying everything is rosy would've seen 0 changes and a 2 sentence statement. They've changed a lot - why not give it a chance and stop complaining?
