Jeez..... Can ANY of the "promoters" in speedway 2018 behave like grown ups ? They remind me of a bunch of schoolboys arguing over a game of conkers .

Quite honestly given the schoolboy behaviour I would like to see P'  Boro drop Ostergard and be allowed special dispensation to ride Chris Harris at number 1 forthe Panthers ... after all Bomber has already won the KO Cup and P.Offs in the premiership  for Poole and Somerset

And I hope the Hammers are making this objection early enough to allow the Panthers to find a guest rider, as opposed to letting them turn up with Ulrich and then slapping a protest into the hands of the ref, like a certain club did with us earlier in the season even though they knew there was an error.

Applying the rules doesn't mean it has to be done in an unsportsmanlike way.

Here is a daft idea, Why not just let Ged have who he wants as it would appear it is his bat and ball and if he doesn't get his own way he will go home and spit his dummy out taking his bat and ball with him.

So how about

PETERBOROUGH:

1. Chris Harris
2. Emil Grondal,
3. Tai Woofenden
4. Thomas Jorgensen,
5. Nicki Pedersen (Dane for Dane)
6. Carl Wilkinson,
7. Simon Lambert.

At least Lakeside might get a bumper crowd to pay for all the messing around they are getting (and probably still win)

As I said just a daft idea, but no more stupid than what is going on

Regards
THJ

Sportsmanlike? Sportsmanship? There hasn't been anything Sporting about British Speedway for a very long time. Lying, cheating, devious, dishonest, crooked, bent and every spin on those words that are in Roget's Thesaurus are more apt descriptions than Sportsmanlike !

Yes I fully agree ..... all I ever see  stated by the " promoters management committee" is the old tripe " in the best interests of the sport"   They are driving spectators away from the sport and from their continuing petty squabbling don't appear to give a tuppenny damn.

PETERBOROUGH have been forced into a further change ahead of tonight’s re-arranged play-off semi-final at Rye House.
The T.Balfe Construction Panthers have been informed they now cannot track Danish star Ulrich Ostergaard - despite being previously told they could.
Ostergaard missed last Sunday’s abandoned clash with Lakeside due to illness, which carries a seven-day suspension according to SCB regulations.
Panthers sought confirmation of their view that the meeting would be deemed not to have taken place, thus making Ostergaard eligible for tonight.
A previous incident this season has been cited by their opponents, whose captain Richard Lawson served a seven-day suspension after missing a trip to Workington which was abandoned after two races.
Panthers have secured Theo Pijper at very short notice to replace Ostergaard.
Club owner Ged Rathbone said: “We did this the right way and after speaking to Ulrich to establish his fitness, we asked the question on Monday over whether he could ride tonight, and we had an email from the SCB to say ‘that’s fine.’
“Then at 8.24pm last night we received another email to say he can’t ride, and that the decision is final.
“That put us in a terrible situation and after spending until midnight contacting almost every Championship rider, none of whom wanted to do it, it looked like we would have to use a National League rider tonight.
“There were literally three riders we were waiting to hear back from, and we are grateful to Theo who took the booking in mid-morning and agreed to drive straight down from Scotland to ride for us.
“Needless to say it’s another frustrating and expensive episode, and one which really shouldn’t have happened.”

It's totally indicative of the lunacy that pervades British Speedway that people are on here arguing that it's sensible, and helps the sport be taken 'more seriously', if Peterborough are forced to use a rider that is totally unconnected to them as a guest, rather than their own rider.

At least we know that it's not just the people running the sport in the UK that are absolute nutters.

Where does it say Ostergaard will be allowed to race? The last I saw was Lakeside - correctly - objecting to his inclusion

The position, so far as I know is that the SCB/BSPA have not so far stepped in to prevent him racing, so at the moment he is allowed to ride. If the authorities do something to stop him or Lakeside object the situation will/may change.

Apologies. I've now seen Neil Watson's post so the position has now changed.

SCB  man Neil Vatcher is just not up to the Job

He never has been unfortunately.

If the decision when first asked had been No then I doubt it would have surprised anyone and not received any real backlash but having been told via email by the SCB that it was ok and then mid yesterday evening no it wasn’t is ridiculous and it put Peterborough in a then difficult position of trying to get a guest with very little if any notice.

No doubt in the not too distant future we will have Cook saying that Lakeside are dissapointed that supporters are seemingly not supporting the Lakeside move to Rye House and the club is losing money hand over fist.

It truly beggars belief that the sport in this country continues to shoot itself in the foot at every opportunity, but it can come as no real surprise to anyone as to why it’s in the state it currently finds itself.

You can't run a professional sport and allow those involved to pick and choose which rules they follow. If the rules aren't sensible and practical the answer is to change the rules.

Correct.

You can't run a 'professional' sport and even entertain the notion of it ever being acceptable for a rider that represents another club in the same league to suddenly switch sides for the night.

The fact that the sport runs successfully, and has a reasonably sized audience, in other countries without such lunatic asylum rules being in place also suggests they're totally unnecessary.

So how does the Morris Play Off final ruling fit with the above?

It seems that 'getting it in writing' means nothing nowadays - Lakeside 'had it in writing' re Adam & Zach's averages only to be forced into a change of their previously declared team!

There is, as stated, a precedent regarding the Ulrich scenario and it has been applied in this case. It just seems the people initially being asked to 'rule' on issues are not up to the job and the more savvy ultimately challenge the interpretation. Should Ged have mentioned to Jon that he intended/wanted to include Ulrich - perhaps - it might have settled the issue at an earlier stage.

Once again, speedway shoots itself in the foot (or both of them). A 'play-off semi-final second leg' should be something of an occasion but this one is as far from that ideal as it gets.

It doesn't. On that occasion Poole booked Morris for their home leg and Ellis away, the reason being Morris' average would have been too high to use him at King's Lynn. However, once it was realised Ellis had been booked to ride for the Stars in the Poole leg both promotions agreed that it would have been daft to have a rider turn out for both sides in a final.
